Getting in Shape

weight watchers confusion

I just joined WW and am so confused! i cook ALOT at home but cant figure out how to calculate what i cook into points. when i try to do it online the points it tells me seem abnormally high, and i dont think its taking into consideration if im using low-fat, fat free, whole wheat etc ingredients

any advice?

Re: weight watchers confusion

  • you have to put in each piece of the recipe in seperately... when you go to search for food type in your food and include the low fat par.t. for instance: hidden valley low fat ranch... then itll tel lyou the points for say 2 tablespoons.
  • where im confused is if i made a big dish of something instead of individual portions. today im making a zucchini casserole, the veggies are zero points, but the recipes calls for about 3 cups of cheese. how would i go about figuring how much cheese is on my plate?

  • I havent used weight watches system but assuming its kinda similar to myfitnesspal reipe tool, you make the recipe using the full mount of every ingredient and you set how many servings that recipe makes.That should then split up the total points or calories from the recipe into how many servings you said it makes.

  • or if WW system wont split up the servings for you, can just do the math yourself. Make the ful recipe in the points system to see how many points it is and then divde that b whatever fraction of it you eat. If it splits up into 4 servings divide it by 4 or 6 divide by 6 or whatever it is and there you have the points

  • One thing I do, is I put my recipe into "caloriecount.about.com" (you have to sign up). It calculates the calories for the entire recepie then you select your portion size (grams/ oz).

    It holds my recepies too, which makes it way easier for me. I know my date squares are two points. It's extra work but worth it!

    <div>
    </div><div>When you add vegetables, or fruit, to a recipe on WW they can sometimes be a few points instead of 0 because they are cooked (it's odd, I know) so make sure you include them in the recipe.</div>

  • Also, I've had really good luck with the Ww recipes. They are generally easy, yummy and I know the points value is right.
  • You just write in everything in the recipe builder and then at the end it asks how many servings and it will break it all down for you.
