Getting in Shape

30 day shred results

Hey girls!

I am trying to get back on the exercise bandwagon. It's hard for me to get the the gym on a regular basis because I work 12 hr shifts with a 1 hr drive each way so I'm not home for most of the day when I work my 5 day sets.

Anyway, I tried the 30 day shred and surprisingly I find it's exactly what I needed because I can do it for 20 mins and not lose out on my whole night when I am in the middle of my work set.

I am currently on day 10 (my last day of level 1) and I don't think I've noticed any changes yet, and there has been no change in my weight. I probably have about 15 lbs to lose before I'd be "too small" so this is basically just to tone up, and get those last couple inches off.

My question is, has anyone done the 30 Day Shred every day and not seen any results or weight loss?

Thanks.

  • What has your eating been like? If you are eating enough calories to counteract what you're burning you won't lose any weight.

That being said-- I started working out regularly a little over a year ago and in that time my weight hasn't changed. I've been a consistent 125 lbs. However, my body fat percentage went down significantly. The scale isn't the only measure of success!

I don't mean this to sound cruel or anything, so please don't take it this way, but ten days of 20 minutes of exercise amounts to a grand total of 3 hours. You really aren't going to see the inches come right off, especially if you don't have a large amount of weight to lose. You didn't gain those inches in 10 days, they won't come off that quickly either unfortunately.
And like pp said, what's your diet look like?

Edited because I'm not very capable of basic math, apparently.

  • Oddly enough we just had a nutrtionist come into work for our health & wellness program we have going one.
She said 15 minutes of exercise only burns off what you have recently eaten. You then need an addtional 15 or so to burn off fat you have stored.

Maybe after the 20 min video, do a 20 min walk or jog around the neighborhood.
Do the video twice in a row.

This is really vague and generalized.  It most definitely depends on how much you've recently eaten and how intense your exercise is.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • I think 10 days of 20 minutes of exercise is actually over 3 hours of exercise. Still, not a ton.
OP, you probably won't see tons of results because you don't have a lot to lose. Ditto PP, focus on your eating.

Have you noticed any changes while doing the video? When I started doing it, I was exhausted like, 4 minutes into the first workout. But after doing it for about 2 weeks, my stamina was so much better! Even though I didn't see a TON of visual improvement, I felt better and that was enough to keep me going.

<div>So true. I burn about the same amount of calories in an intense 30 minute personal training session as I do in a 90 minute hot yoga class. You get out what you put in. </div><div>
</div><div>It's all basic math. Your body burns approximately your body weight x 10 calories just being alive. More, if you're more active, less if you're more sedentary (i.e. desk job & couch potato). So for me, that's about 1250 calories a day. If I eat that much a day, I break even. If I eat more, I have a surplus of calories for that day and they get stored as fat. If I eat less than 1250 calories a day, the difference is burned off. If I exercise and burn X amount of calories that day I have even more of a deficit. Of course it's different for everyone, but your diet and exercise are both components in the weightloss puzzle. One won't work (at least not quickly) without discipline with the other.</div><div>
</div><div>Of course, that was an oversimplified explanation... but it helps. Start counting calories, and if you want to get a good picture of what you burn per day, invest in a heart rate monitor. I'm trying to maintain at this point, so if I burn 700 calories in a day, you'd better believe I'm helping myself to a cookie :)</div><div>
    </div><div>edit: added some clarification</div>

Wow, terrible math fail on my part. I swear, I know there are 60 minutes in an hour, not 100.

    Thanks guys.

Yes I understand to get any real weight loss I need to count calories and exercise to get more of a calorie deficit.

I am not looking for results that just won't come by doing a 20 min workout a day. I realize 20 minutes isn't a lot of time to exercise. At the same time I know it is quite intense, sometimes it feels more intense than a regular hour at the gym would be for me, so I was wondering if any of you had or had not experienced results from it.

Right now I'm just trying to get used to a rountine and increase my stamina (losing weight would be a bonus). When I am finished this program I will start at the gym, continue the video when I work and change my eating habits.

    Thanks for the replies!

  • I also have the 30Day shred program, but have to admit I am not doing it every day. It's more like an addition to my cardio workouts, so that after a run I'd do another 20 min of it. I have seen results, and lost some weight but wouldn't say that the 30Day Shred by itself would have been enough.
