Getting in Shape

Starting today...

Wedding is in 5 months...I have had a problem getting motivated as well!  Today I am starting a no-carb diet.  I am going to eat fruits and veggies still, but no bread, potatoes, rice, sugar, etc.  Has anybody else had success in this?  I'm also going to start exercising a lot.  I've got quite a ways to go before my wedding, and I really don't want to be disappointed if I don't make my goal!  Any suggestions or encouragement are welcome!  :)

Re: Starting today...

  • Well, not all carbs are evil.  Just certain ones are.

I'm all for (and follow) a lower carb diet/lifestyle, but your body does need carbs to function properly.

That being said, cutting out white bread, white rice, white potatoes and refined sugars is a good way to go.

    Hi Lindsaymari,
Congrats on working up the motivation to get healthier. I am sure there are girls on here that have had success with the no card diet hoever I am not one of them. If you're anything ilke me and love carbs, or even like them, chances are you will find this diet extremely difficult after the first week or two. I tried this diet a few years ago and after 2 weeks I became a super bitch.
What I've found on this board, and in my own life, are the "diets" that work, are actually not diets at all, just a healthy way of living. Try not to starve yourself or deprive yourself of any one particular food group (unless you count fast food as a food group, then certainly, toss that out). If you make a certain food "off limits" your brain seems to crave it even more. I'm sure there's something scientific to this but truely when I decided I wasn't eating carbs I felt like all I could think about was bread, pasta, etc. It consumed me and any weight I lost in those two weeks was quickly regained when I freaked out after watching my family eat pasta one night at dinner and having a crazy carb-binge afterwards.
The regulars on this board will be able to give you more adive, but it's helped me enormously to start really reading up on what I'm putting into my body and taking note of the effects it has on my mood, the way I feel, etc.
Good luck, I am positive you'll find something that works for you!
  • HI! Sounds like you are attempting a no-starch diet, not no-carb. People get confused all the time.

Anyway, I did a extremely low starch (like down to 2) a day for the last three weeks before my wedding in June. I lost weight and looked great, but as most will tell you, the minute you go back to eating starch, you are likely to regain any weight that you lost. (sometimes more!)

It's still a struggle. but try to find a value you can live with. Lifestyle changes are so important. I now each day aim for 3, but tell myself 4 is ok. And that usually works, but if I eat what I want (like 10* servings!) I gain weight.

*I'm diabetic, so the serving size of 15g is my goal. That said a single bagel, counts as 3 or 4 servings! I try to count anything that's 15-20g as one serving. Just wanted to clarify my 10 servings that I want to eat.
  • what my mother has told me my entire life (although i never listened until now) moderation, moderation, MODERATION.  so a little bit of starches every now and then are okay!  My biggest issue is portions...i want to fill my plate to overflowing and eat it all and if i can, go back for seconds.  i've really had to work on this!!!

either way you go, i'm happy to hear that you're  getting motivated!!!
