Getting in Shape

Need some motivation!!

Hi all!  I don't come on this board very often, and realized today I really need to be on here a LOT!  I joined WW and have yet to really stick to the plan.  I've lost about 5 pounds, but I have zero motivation lately.  It's been a rough few weeks, we sold our house and don't close on our new one for another week so there have been lots of dinners out and it has just made me feel so YUCK.  I'm getting married in a little over 4 months and it makes me so mad at myself that all I've lost is a measley 5 pounds.  I'd love any motivational tips anybody has, or even great recipes I can make in the new house!  I think I just needed to vent and get some feedback from girls in the same situation.

Thanks!!

Hey Girl! I know how ya feel! I think you should be happy about losing 5 lbs!  It is a whole lot better than say.. gaining 5 lbs! You should be proud of the work you did and use that to encourage yourself to lose the next 5 lbs.  I know how hard it is when you're moving to eat well. We are moving to the next town over and I haven't eaten a goo meal in days! I just keep reminding myself I'm moving somewhere that has a backyard and we are going to plant lots of fresh veggies and herbs! Just don't give up on yourself when you get down.  Write down your goals and post them on your mirror, fridge, etc. Post a skinny pic too! I have a chart in my bathroom and when I reach a certain goal i get to rewar myself with something like shoes or date night! Good luck to ya!

  • a lot of times the food you eat has a direct effect on your mood.
you could be feeling 'meh' becuase you're filling your body with stuff it can't use!  when i'm faced with a busy week, i typically buy lots of fruits and veggies that i can pre-cut and add to things like salads, rice on the stove, etc

one quick recipe that you can make in bulk is an easy pasta salad -- spiral pasta, chopped veggies (i use broccoli, green peppers, onions, black olives), shredded mozzarella cheese and italian dressing.  while the pasta is cooking, steam the veggies (or leave them raw). after draining the pasta, dump in the veggies, cheese and italian dressing to taste.  i usually make a big pot for the week and then make things like chicken, or a salad to go with it on any given night. =)

i like to keep a small dark chocolate bar around for those nights when i need a treat.  melt 1 or 2 squares, and dip any fruit in it that you want --- yum!

....bottom line, make sure you're giving your body GOOD fuel (food), and take a walk outside or a bike ride when you start to feel stressed. =)
  • Some motivation huh?  Here is my best advise I give to people and I live by this as I'm on weight watchers as well.  I figure out what I like to eat the most and I figure out how to eat it.  Like I love Pizza!  So I make portabella Pizzas.  I put the pizza toppings that I love on a portabella, save lots of points on the crust.  Or I get a delight vegie pizza from Papa Murphy's.

As far as restarants go, most chains already have added their nutrition information on their websites, you can go there and figure out the Points Plus value.  then you can go prepaired.

Just remember do not deprive yourself make sure you enjoy your food and you just might end up being surprised!

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks girls! Love the pasta and pizza ideas! I did well today and I know if I really focus I can do it. It's just a matter of making the right choices. This board is inspiring so I think I will stick around and check it daily. :-)

Since you're moving, I'm not sure if you have regular internet access, but if you're going to be eating out a lot, there are still ways to eat healthy.

Check online at a restaurant you're going to and look at the nutritional menu and get an idea of a few healthy options you could order. Remember though, just because it's in the salad section does NOT mean it's healthy. Some restaurant's salads can be loaded with excess calories.

Also, if you find a meal you like but they give you way too much, ask for a doggy bag/box and immediately put half away. This will prevent you from over-eating and you'll have a meal for later in the week or a lunch.

  • How's this for motivation.

You are sad you only lost 5 pounds, now imagine if you quit doing what you need to do and actually gained 10 pounds.  Then instead of losing slowly but surely you will have MORE weight to lose.

That is a big No No and more depressing than what you are dealing with now.  I suggest you get your butt in gear and pick it up..give it as much effort as possible.

:)  You said you wanted motivation, I swear I am not trying to be mean.
