Getting in Shape

Weight Watchers Online

I'm contemplating doing weight watchers online. I really need some sort of accountability and feel this would be a great program for me. The $65 for three months seems like the best deal...does anyone have any promotions codes by chance? And any advice on how you feel about the online program? Thanks!

Re: Weight Watchers Online

  • Have you ever done WW before?  I think it might be good if you are already familiar with the program and are good with self-discipline.  I've done WW with meetings and weigh-ins, and I've done it online.  I find my success rate is substantially higher when I weigh-in at a location every week and attend the meetings.  There is nothing that keeps you more accountable when you have another person weigh you in each week. Plus the meetings are so helpful if you have a great leader/group.

  • I, too, am contemplating WW online- I look forward to reading your thoughts, ladies!
  • I have donoe both, and am currently doing meetings with success. I recommend the meetings because I feel that online was harder, esp if you have never done the program before it will be a lot better for you to do the meetings. I find that going in keeps me accountable and wanting to be successful.
  • I've done both and I think meetings are more helpful.
  • I would highly suggest you check out sparkpeople.com, its the same program as ww online accept it uses calories instead of points but now here is the best part...) Its free! I have been on there for a few months now and have lost 25 lbs and counting!
  • I do WW online and have never done the meetings.  If you'll go to the meetings, I think they would be more helpful.  But I'm too private of a person to be weighed in front of other people, so online worked much better for me.  I think you just have to figure out what you personally will stick to.

I've done WW with the meetings in the past, and I am doing WW online currently.  I like WW online because with my crazy work schedule, I don't have time to committ to going to a physical meeting at the same time every week.  WW online you can obviously log on any time, day or night, and check your points tracker.  I like that it calculates everything for you automatically, along with your activity points, remaining weekly points, etc.  I find that feature really helpful and user-friendly.

Other than that, I don't access the site that often.  I would prefer if they would send me a weekly article, perhaps with a particular theme in mind, like is discussed at a weekly meeting.   They do have  a community message board section that is okay, but I haven't gotten into that too much.  I find that I am doing pretty well with just using the points tracking system--that's what is helping me to remain accountable, and realize how much everything I eat, big or small, adds up.  And I plan ahead--if I know I have a dinner out or party coming up, I save my weekly points, or work extra hard to earn more activity points.

I think if you're new to the WW world or to dieting in general, WW with meetings might be your best bet if you can fit it into your schedule.  But if you know you have the self-discipline, and don't really need the weekly personal contact to get the motivation, WW online does work well.
  • if you get the monthly pass you get access to online etools so you can track online and go to meetings.

also you are not committed to one time specific meeting time each week. i go either friday or saturday.

  • I agree with doing both... I like to do the online tools because I can get great recipes and even make up my own and still get the points value. I go to the meetings because everyone there has such great advice and ideas that I would never think of! Some of my little tricks are ones that I haven taken from other members at meetings.

I ran into a bit of trouble though, I have lost 20lbs in about 12 weeks. I could not get to 25 before my 16 weeks and got really down on myself. I stopped for 2 months and finally went back to the meeting yesterday! I feel so refreshed and am ready to go (especially since I only gained 2lbs the 2 months I was gone).

I was actually almost shaking because of the anxiety that all of my work from the first 12 weeks had gone away but staying conscious and true to what you eat is important! Try it... It does work!:) Good Luck!
