Colon cleanse... anyone?

I'm thinking about trying something like this, in an effort to shed a few more pounds before our wedding in... 17 days!! I've read that it can be beneficial in lots of ther ways too. I don't want to take pills either - I just want to eat cleansing foods...fruits, vegetables, fibers, etc. Has anyone done such a cleanse? Did it work? Is anyone trying one now? Any tips?

Thanks!
So happy to be married to my best friend.

Re: Colon cleanse... anyone?

  • I havent tried it to the extreme, but I have started adding benefiber to my drink with my meals 3 times a day, 2 teaspoons each serving... It helps to keep your digestive system *ahem* regular (haha) and if you are also eating the recommended fruits and veggies then it works really well... I have noticed less bloat and tummy pooch since I started adding it to my diet!
  • I've done colon cleanses, and I do think it helps with 'bloating' for a day or so. If you've never had it done though you won't want to do it shortly before the wedding. The first colon cleanse is really uncomfortable (in my opinion) and I didn't notice much effect. But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ones I noticed just how much better I felt, and that eating better in combination with the cleanse helped. Be sure to hydrate, take vitamins and be well rested. It's not for the faint of heart either.

In my opinion, I'd say if you can get one this week, and one next week(a few days before your wedding) that might be the best plan. It really does help you feel light and less bloated tummy.

  • I tried Bethenny Frankel's Green Lemonade Daily Cleanse.  It is amazing!  You add it to water.  It's a little grayish, which totally freaked me out.  I emailed her site and you can add it to green tea as well, which helped with the color!  The best part of this cleanse is that it doesn't "make you go"!  You are just able to go when you want to go!  Yes, I know how gross it sounds, but I love that it doesn't make you run for the bathroom every half hour!  You can order it from bethenny.com or GNC's website!
  • Don't take pills, they're just glorfiied laxatives.  Your best bet is to go with what megaahontas said and add more fiber in to your diet, which is sounds like is your plan anyway.  Also, Activia did wonders for me when I came off antibiotics and had some stomach issues.  My fiance actually just started eating it regularly because I convinced him that his *ahem* bathroom routine was not in fact normal, and he's far more regular and uh... fully developed.  Sensitive subject.

Anyway, if you up fiber and liquids from natural sources and try to get some probiotics in, you'll probably feel great by the time the wedding rolls around.  Eat your beans!
  • Agree with PP!

Do not take pills or anything that is considered a laxative. I took an extra strength green tea that contain cassia angustifolia (Senna). Yes, I will admit I lost 3 pounds but I was in the bathroom crying like a baby for 2 hours.

Now once a month I will do a fruit flush. I drink tons of water and eat fruit for 2 days. If I'm sick of fruit I'll have cabbage soup. This works great plus I feel amazing.
