Getting in Shape

Vent/Depressed

So last year, I was very healthy for a long time and lost some weight. My out-of-province sister came to visit so we went dress shopping and I found a beautiful dress, for a great deal! Bought it, gained weight, and have been struggling so much in loosing it again. no good reason on why I cna't loose it, just eating too much and not moving enough.
I'm 5'2, 145 pounds, and need to get to at LEAST 130, 125 would be LOT better and anymore would make me very happy. but... the wedding is June 23.
I just wish I could be better and find my will power. A this point I'm going to have to be 100% perfect to reach my goals, but what am I to do at all the pre-wedding parties, not to mention just general life where everyone around me is eating like crazy but still somehow not fat... :(
Even when I do loose a little weight, I snap at some point and gain it back. I'm making any progress, just go back and forth with 5 pounds.

  • I studied nutrition in school for a little while, so my tips aren't as weird as they may sound.

Sleeping a minimum of 8 hours a night will help you lose weight. Chronically getting less sleep puts your body into survival mode, which means it packs on weight to help it survive.

Also, sometimes your body confuses thirst signals for hunger signals. If you are hungry drink a glass of water (or other super low sugar and calorie drink, though water is best), wait 10 minutes. If you are still hungry, drink a bit more water and wait a little longer. If you are still hungry, then eat a small healthy snack.

Try to eat more whole grains, they also help you lose weight and they keep you full longer than white grains. Veggies will also keep you full for longer, since they are harder to digest, and are very low calorie.

I'm also trying to lose weight, and I know it's not easy. Best of luck!
  • You just have to change your eating habbits and move move more! If you eat healthy and excercise regularly than you can eat the treats at the pre-wedding festivities! Trust me, I pigged out at my shower and bachelorette party! It's ok to induldge once in awhile as long as you eat healthy the rest of the time!I
15-20 pounds is do-able in 4 months but you're going to have to be strict. Its always hard to lose the weight at the beginning but once you see the pounds dropping you'll be so happy and motivated to keep going!
Have  you tried weight watchers? I know its helped some of my friends reach their goals!
Don't be depressed, you can do it, I'm rooting for you!

  • I have been through the cycle of gaining and losing and at some point you'll gave to decide that looking and feeling amazing is worth more than the momentary love of good food. You can do it just make sure to watch portions and get moving! Once you do you will have more energy and even more motivation once you see a little bit of change in your body. 1-2 lbs per week is doable but start now! Good luck!

  • I've been on something that my dr. prescribed to me called 'Phentermine" and it works great! I'm also 5'2 but weighed 170 when i first went on them and now am 142. I've been on them for about 3 months now. I'm also excercising twice a week as well. My dr. said that these give you the little boost you need to start loosing weight and he was right! If there's such thing as a "magic" pill - this would be it!  Maybe see if your dr. will prescribe them for you!
  • Staycb, That's just an appetite suppressant, and not meant to be taken long-term so you run the risk of gaining all your weight back unless you learn about better eating habits.

  • yep - I know all about it not being long term. It'll certainly help for a few months though if you wanna loose. Pretty much a for sure thing! It's worked wonders - and if it's dr approved then all the better. of course you cant be on it forever but it helps give you the boost you need and then you take it from there with eating better and excersicing and you're all good Laughing
  • As long as you recognize that you're appetite WILL return to what it was before the pill you're taking.. and that you're going to have to feel it but still tell your body "no" when it wants food...
