BodyBugg vs???

Hi everyone,

I remember a few months ago I wrote a post asking about the BodyBugg calorie tracker and I know there is another one but can't seem to remember the name of it. Anyways, I am looking on ebay to see if I can find one because I just dont have the money to go out and buy a new one.

My question..if you just purhcase the armband, is that sufficient to track your calories? Whats the deal with the website? Do you have to buy access to that as well?

TIA!

Re: BodyBugg vs???

  • The other version is Go Wear Fit, I think COKristi has this one, but I could be wrong.

I have a bodybugg, and the website is 9.99 a month or 79.99 for a year. It is basically used for logging your calories and uploading your calorie burn. You need the website to get the calorie burn off of your bodybugg. Even if you have the digital display, the bodybugg can only hold up to 2 weeks of data before it becomes full and can not log any new data. So it is very important that the website is used with it. I for one find the website really helpful, it gives you graphs and displays of your calories in vs. calories out, or even how many calories you are burning during certain periods of the day. Ever wonder what you burn while sleeping? It'll tell you.  Tracks your weight loss, measurements, and body fat% if you want it to. It will create sample meal plans based on your daily calorie goals. And has a lot of helpful weight loss articles on it.

I believe the Go Wear Fit works the same way, only their web site is a little different, I am not really 100% what it's features are.

  • I have the GoWearFit and you do need to purchase access to their site. It's only about $6.95 with a certain time committment. You can track your calories with just the band, but then you need the additional device which has a screen that shows you the numbers at all times (it links to the armband wirelessly, I believe). However, that additional piece is about $80 so it's really 6 of one, half dozen of another....

  • Yep, I have the GoWearFit and I bought the armband as well. The website features sound the same as Jabeckner's Body Bugg. I think I read somewhere that they are the same device, but 24 Fitness owns the rights to the Body Bugg name. I believe they are the same company though (or so I heard).

I love having the display watch so I know how many calories I'm burning throughout the day. It updates every minute. I broke my personal record on Friday and burned 3262, whoop whoop!

I got the first 3 months free on the website. You definitely don't have to spend $80 on the armband but it's nice to have. If I'm short on calorie burn for the day it really motivates me to walk a couple miles after work to meet my goal.

  • There is another one now called FitBit.  i've ordered it, but they were backordered and i haven't actually gotten it yet.  i saw all good reviews about it online, though.  it gives you info about calorie burn, as well as sleep patterns.  it's much smaller and more discreet than the bodybugg (and cheaper) and the website is free.  whenever i get it, i'll post my feedback.  i think their website is just www.fitbit.com if you want to check it out.
  • Some things you should know about the fit bit is that it is basically just a glorified pedometer, It doesn't even need to touch your skin to do it's calculations. All of the calculations are done based on your movements alone. So it basically determines that if you are moving at 2.5 mph you are burning so many calories, kind of like a treadmill guesses your calorie burn, and that isn't even close to accurate for me. The site also does not mention the accuracy of the fit bit other then to say it's accurate, not sure what they consider accurate?

The bodybugg or the gowearfit, actually has multiple sensors to calculate your calories burned. While it also uses motion and steps, it also uses the galvanic skin response (when you sweat your skin becomes more electrically conductive, which helps determine your active level), skin temperature, and Heat flux (the amount of heat flowing from your body to the environment, when muscles are working they generate a certain amount of heat). It is also stated that the bodybugg is over 90% accurate.

I am a huge fan of the bodybugg and so I am always it's cheerleader, but I also do the research and have some knowledge of what I am talking about. So I would consider these factors before you purchase. If the fit bit is enough for you, then that is awesome you are saving probably about $75 +. I would just say do the research first :)

  • I know you posted a while ago, but the bodybugg requires the website. It is how you upload the data from the armband and how you keep track of your calories. You can use just the website if you want, but you can't just use the armband.
