Getting in Shape

workouts with limited time

I need some help!  I used to be in really good shape but not so much anymore...My wedding is in 8 months and I would like to lose about 10lbs and tone up.  Unfortunately I work fifty hours a week and am a part time graduate student.  Anyone have any advice for me? Fun/quick workouts that won't put me into cardiac arrest? Easy foods that will fill me up?

Thanks Tongue out

Re: workouts with limited time

  • Have you tried 30 Day Shred?  22 minutes of workout packed into about a 27 minute DVD.  It works you pretty hard for a super short duration...

  • When I am short on time I do an interval workout.  Usually I do it on the treadmill.  I get in a good workout (cardio) in about 30 minutes (including warm up and cool down).  I've googled to get sample workouts and right now I'm doing a 4 minute warm up at 3.5, then for the next twenty minutes I do 30 seconds at 8.0 and 90 seconds at 3.7 before I do a 4-5 minute cool down.  The 30DS is good but I haven't heard of many people (myself included) who have lost weight doing that alone.  It did help to strengthen my muscles which is something you are looking for.  GL!

  • If you're short on time, I also recommend the high intensity intervals.  I outlined it in more detail in the 'too much cardio?!' post a few down.  and it doesn't have to be just on the treadmill.  You can do it on the elliptical, the bike, outside, wherever.  It burns more calories in less time.

I also suggest adding in a weight regimen.  Look for foods with higher fiber content and protein.  An apple with peanut butter is a great snack- fiber plus protein.  I'm a fan of the nut and fruit granola bars from Kashi.  They also make some high fiber cereals as well.  Oatmeal is good for breakfast, and there are lots of healthy recipes floating around here.  There are a bunch of women on here with healthy eating blogs-  anyone want to hoar theirs out?  ;)
