for all the Katniss fans....

what did everyone think of the movie????

How many times did you cry??? (personally, I think I cried at least 6 times. sometimes just because something was awesome, and sometimes because it was sad).

What did you think of Peeta???? His character was NOT what I had envisioned at all!

Re: for all the Katniss fans....

  • I loved the movie! But I do think that I would've loved it more had I not read the books, as strange as that sounds. They hit on all the big points in the movie but I felt like they were rushing them one right after another. But it was still so good. Some of the inconsistencies in the smaller details, like the story of the pin, bugged me a little but I know why they had to leave it out.

I thought that seeing everything that the capitol was doing behind the scenes while they were in the arena was cool. I was wondering how they were going to explain all of the stuff that she thinks in her head in movie format, and I like the way they did it.

Peeta totally surprised me too! The whole time I read the book I pictured him as this sort of homely looking, kind of bigger boy, but he was super cute in the movie! By the end of it I just wanted to kiss him lol.

I can't wait for the next movie to come out! I'm currently re-reading the books.

  • I thought that the girl that played Katniss was spot on, but the guy that played Peeta was a bit miscast. I didn't cry at all during the movie, but I did get a little teary eyed at the scene where Rue died. I think they did a good job there. Also President Snow, I can understand why they cast him because he can be sinister, but still not look it so he makes a good bad guy, but when reading I thought that he would be younger and clean shaven. And can I just say I loved Lenny Kravitz as Cinna! I thought that he did a good job portraying him. I know during the next movie when they kill him I'll probably cry because I did while reading the book.

I have to say I don't like the casting for Primrose or their mom, they made Katniss look like she didn't belong with them at all, and I understand that they are supposed to have some kind of separation because Katniss takes care of them, but I still think they should have made them look at least like they were related.

And I HATE how Katniss got the mockingjay pin. They should have kept Madge in the movie like the book. I think it was an important relationship and explains a lot of connections in the next 2 books.

  • I LOVED IT. I cried twice. I thought Peeta was fine, if anything maybe just a little...flat? Their time together in the forest was shortened a lot in the movie so we didn't really get to see their relationship like we did in the book.

I loved seeing the capital and all the capital people. Effie and Ceasar I thought were especially good. Haymitch was great too, EXACTLY how I pictured him. I really have zero complaints about the movie. I thought it was perfect given the circumstances. Yeah it would have been better if it was a 6 hour movie but that's just not possible.

My FI has read all the books too and his biggest complaint was lack of violence, but I actually thought there would be much LESS violence given the PG-13 rating.

I can't wait for next movie either! I want to see who Finnick will be played by! Ryan Gosling is perfect for it in my head but I doubt they'll pull that off.

  • OMG Meagan Ryan Gosling would be perfect! That's exactly how I pictured Finnick! And I was a little caught off guard by President Snow. Because I know how evil he really is, I always pictured him younger and almost vampire-esque. With dark slicked back hair and very pale.

And I always pictured Haymitch way older. But Cinna, gosh he was perfect! When I first saw the trailer and saw the scene where he says he would bet on her, I started jumping up and down literally because he was exactly how I envisioned him to be. Nerd, I know.

  • I liked the movie but I thought that it was a little vague.  I loved Stanley Tucci but I thought Woody Harrelson was a bad choice for Haymitch.  I love Woody Harrelson but I imagined Haymitch as an old, sloppy drunk and it didn't fit.

This is exactly how I pictured him too.

  • this discussion is a lot of fun :)

I actually picture Haymitch as about the age of Woody Harrelson, but a bit sloppier, as you guys mentioned.

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE FINNICK! Ryan Gosling is basically the image I had in my head during the books when I read about him. Finnick is actually one of my favorite characters from the whole series!!

I got goosies the first time I saw Lenny Kravitz as Cinna putting his finger up to his lips in the previews, he was 100% spot on.  Jennifer Lawrence was absolutely impeccable as Katniss, IMO. Also agree that Stanley Tucci was awesome.

Obviously Gale didn't do much...but WOWZERS, was he ever gorgeous!

I SO agree about Madge. I wish she hadn't been taken out. The whole pin thing annoyed me, but it wasn't so bad that it ruined the movie for me. I wish the movie could have lasted 4 hours so nothing would have been taken out!!
  • The only really big thing that I wish they would've done more of is the relationship between Katnis and Peeta in the woods. They didn't delve into the fact that she was playing along the whole time except for that one kiss in the cave, which complicates their whole relationship. Since it runs through the rest of the series pretty strongly, I think it's really important that everyone understands what went on between them, especially in her head. And I'm also a sucker for romance so I would've liked to see a bit more of that too haha.

  • Yes, the Katniss and Peeta relationship in the woods happened WAY too fast.  While the acting in the cave was bad for sure, it wasn't so bad that it would have been obvious to those who haven't read the books that Katniss was playing along and faking the whole thing.

I also wanted the Rue/Katniss relationship to be longer. It seemed like their alliance only lasted for about 5 minutes before Rue died.

oh yea, I thought Elizabeth Banks was superb as well. I read in my movie companion that she sought out the role and volunteered for it because she loved the series so much, and I think you could tell how happy she was and how into her role she was during the whole movie.
  • I loved the movie! I thought it was great and I definitly cried. I thought Peeta was ok, but their relationship was definitlly rushed and not explained enough. Also we didn't really get the goodness of Peeta that is so important when he loses it in the third book.

The physical differences between Katniss and her mom and Prim were perfect to me. They say in the books that they don't look alike because Prim looks like her mom, who is from the merchant class, and Katniss looks like her dad who is from the seem. So that worked for me.

I hated that they left out Madge. I really like their relationship in the books and how sad Katniss is when she dies. Also, I didn't like how little the prep team was there. They are such good comic relief in the books but we barely even see them in the movie.

  • I thought the movie was okay.

SPOILER ALTER: do not read below this line if you have not seen the movie. I MEAN IT!

-Okay so why did they take Prim's blood at the reaping? That wasn't in the book nor did it have any significance in the movie? I HATE when book movies make things up. not cool.
-I didn't like that they never explained Katniss's dad. They showed a "dream" with him blowing up, but had I never read the books I might not have gotten that.
-What about District 11 sending Katniss bread?! HUGE part of the story. They completely left it out.
-In the book Rue dies while in the net. Katniss busts in and sees the guy stab her, she shoots him, and then cuts Rue free. WHY DID THEY CHANGE THAT!?

I could go on and on. It makes me angry they changed things that were unnecessary. I understand for time reasons they couldn't include everything, but i think they could have done a better job.

All in all, I would give the movie an 85%. I was slightly disappointed.

(As for peeta, TOTALLY not what I expected! Gale is gorgeous though :D)
