Need sugar-free recipes

My FIL is on a sugar free diet and is having trouble finding any good recipes. Does any have any websites that might help? I wanted to make him some sort of a dessert for a Christmas party tomorrow so that he'll have something too and won't be tempted to break his diet. Thanks ya'll!!

Re: Need sugar-free recipes

  • FI is a diabetic and the majority of things I bake, are for him.  Splenda is wonderful and can be substituted for sugar, cup for cup.

Personally, I like pies, apple always comes out great and for pumpkin you can use the canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) and follow the directions on the back… Pastry pie crusts are generally are shortening, flour and a drop of salt, although you can add splenda for a little sweetness.

FI loves cookies although I do use splenda brown sugar for them (still has some sugar but you only use half, read the bag.)  For cookies you need to keep an eye on them while cooking because they do not brown or caramalize like they would with sugar.

I also noticed recently that my supermarket carries a No-Sugar Added yellow cake mix, in a blue box.  For that I make a pudding frosting, sugarfree chocolate pudding frosting… make the pudding with milk and fold in a tub of sugarfree cool whip, although that needs to be refrigerator.

Keep in mind, aside from the last suggestion, none of these are lowfat.

i'm not sure if any of the recipes on there are good but here are some ideas
  • I had a friend who had gastric bypass..and what they recommended for her was bariatriceating.com. There are a few good recipes there!
  • I'd recommend something like a stevia sweetener (Truvia, PureVia) over Splenda, just because stevia is natural.  But I'm biased because most artificial sweeteners give me migraines.

  • I bought the book The Belly Fat Cure today and the diet is based on only consuming 15 grams of sugar each day (it seems almost impossible to me but I am going to give it a shot).  The book has a lot of recipes for things you would get at restaurants that have a lot of sugar hidden in them but the recipes take the sugar out.  I just got it today so I don't know if the recipes are any good, though.

Her website is not sugar free but she has some great recipes and they have not only been praised for by crohn's patients but for diabetics too.
