Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Monday

It's Monday whomp whomp.

I hope you all had great weekends and were able to stick with your workout plans!  What did you all do?

Friday I went out with CWs, so no working out then.  Saturday was a lounge day.  FI and I were both pretty burnt out so we did all sorts of nothing.  It was wonderful.  Yesterday I went to the gym and yet AGAIN all of the good treadmills were taken leaving the crappy ones.  I always get shin splits when I run on those (I've come to realize, and they don't have fans) so I ended up running outside in the freezing cold without my inhaler while FI lifted.  I ended up going 5.2 miles so I'm pretty happy about that.

Tonight I'm hoping for some light cardio and weights depending how I feel.

Re: Workout Accountability: Monday

  • Good morning!

lbarr, None of the treadmills at my gym have fans, ugh.  I've learned to bring an extra shirt just to wipe my face.

Friday I really did not want to run on the treadmill because it was so nice outside.  But it was too dark, so I sucked it up and went to the gym.  I tried a Hills workout and actually really enjoyed it! Saturday my family came to visit and we walked a ton.  Yesterday I lifted and did the elliptical as well as the stationary bike.

And, tiny AW moment warning, as of this morning I finally made it out of my weight loss plateau.  I'm down 16lbs after being stuck in the 13-15lb range for weeks!

  • Saturday and Sunday were must needed rest days for me.

Today I plan on doing the elliptical for a while and c25k week 2 day 1.

  • I didn't do any working out this weekend unless you count running around the mall- I did that on Saturday and was power walking because I wanted to get the hail outta there! Today I'll hit the gym for a bit of cardio and weightlifting.

Kudos for running outside when all the good treadmills were taken! I would have been like weeellll, guess I can't run today. Oh well. Then onto something else.

  • I made it to the gym yesterday. I wanted to work out longer than an hour because I ate so badly Friday and Saturday while we were away, but I only got in 60 minutes. We got a bad snow storm yesterday and I had to go to my Dad's to pick up my puppy since he was watching her while I was away. I hope I didn't do too much damage this weekend!

lbarr - I HATE when only the older, crappy machines are left! I always try and will people off of them in my head but it never seems to work lol.

  • "Happy" Monday!

This weekend was nice--we did our Valentine's Day dinner out on Saturday night thinking it would be less crazy than Tuesday, but it was packed! Luckily we had a reso because the wait was 1 hour and 45 minutes. We indulged a bit (fried calamari, steak, cheesecake), but I did 45 mintues of Zumba and a Ripped in 30 workout on both Saturday and Sunday.

I am down almost 9 lbs total which I never thought would be possible! Especially since I still have Girl Scout cookies! :-) Thanks for the motivation and accountability!

Tonight is Zumba and Ripped in 30. I have two more days left of Week Two and then will be moving up on Wednesday. I am a little nervous.

I ALMOST bought Jillian Michael's new workout thing (Body Revolution?)--it's a million DVDS, 90 days, meal plan, etc. I did not end up getting it as in the infomercial, a lot of the moves looked like ones we already do in 30DS or Ripped in 30.

  • Morning everyone!  Great job on sticking it out this weekend.  We were pretty busy, but I managed to workout Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

My FI got me this new DVD workout series that I asked for and I tried it out for the first time this weekend.  It's called the Brazilian Butt Lift, and it is intense.  There are only about 6 different routines, but they are killer.  After the first day, I could barely walk.  The guy who leads the class is pretty cheesy, and some of the moves are embarrassing to try if you're like me and not coordinated.  But, it is fun!  The Bum Bum workout is hard, but the Cardio routine is a ton of fun.  It's a bunch of samba moves, and I was so busy having fun with it, that I didn't get tired as quickly.

So, if you are looking for something that hits your lower body hard, but still gives you good cardio and ab work, I would highly recommend this series.

  • Dawnie- Hiiii!  Also, I've been hearing SO many good things about those vids, I definitely want them.  It might be more fun then just doing a bajillion squats at the gym.

Maribeth- I tried the hover technique (very obnoxious I know) but no one got the hint.  Usually I will sit and pout behind the treadmills on the bike but that kills my mood so I figured I had to do something!
  • Got 12.4 miles in this weekend.  I'm supposed to do 4 tonight but I ran yesterday instead of Saturday (it was raining) so I might recover today.  If I feel up to it I'll crank out a few miles on the treadmill.  We shall see...

  • Hi I'm new to this board and I really need it right now. I have 4 months and two weeks until my wedding day and I really need to kick up my workout into high gear so that I can meet my 20lb goal. I need a lil support right now in this area and I'm hoping that by joining this board it will help me. I plan on going to the gym tonight and taking a circuit traingin class for an hour. Wish me luck!
  • I got 35 minutes of elliptical and 10 minutes of weight lifting in on Saturday, then only 45 minutes of light cardio on my bike last night. Pretty disappointed by the exercise this weekend, gonna go to the gym tonight and try to push myself a LOT harder.

  • I'm going to the gym this afternoon to do 35 minutes on the elliptical and then about 30 minutes of weights.  My goal is to go to the gym three days a week, but most weeks I only make it one day.  That's better than none, but still not enough.

  • HI lbarr!!!  It was crazy hard, but I feel like it should be hard in the beginning that way you can tell you're progressing as it gets easier.

Hello Colette!  What kind of workout plan do you have?
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • I currently do Capoeira  2x's a week, it's a Brazilian martial art. I also walk, weight lift and do cardio tapes , classes 2 times a week. Sometimes I only workout 3 x's a week due to my schedule but I know that I need to kick it up a notch especially now since I only have 4 1/2 months to go.
  • Hi all! I'm also new to this board. I'm looking to lose 15 lbs for the wedding... Luckily I have a little under 9 months to get to my goal. I started tracking my calories & exercise using My Fitness Pal last week & this weekend I got my 30 Day Shred dvd in the mail. I am planning to do 30 Day Shred in addition to 3-4 days working out at the gym. Right now I'm only doing cardio at the gym since 30DS is kicking my butt & I'm super sore, but I want to incorporate weight training into my gym routine. Good luck to everyone with your weight loss goals!
  • Sat and this morning I did my spinning class. Yesterday was a chest and back lift. I feel like I need to revamp my back workout, but feeling good about my progress so far.

@Colette I've never heard of Capoeira, it sounds really interesting!

  • Hi everyone!

I got to run outside on Friday 4.5miles- the furthest I've gone in a quite a while.

Saturday I took everyone's advice an had a day off- it was much needed and I did not freak out, or get off track!

Sunday it snowed, so I did the elliptical for 60 minutes and level 2 of the 30D shred.

I am really looking to change it up a little- maybe a spinning class once or twice a week. Anyone spin? What is a good length of class to look for, an hour??
  • Colette: Sounds like you have a plan and a routine.  That's great!  It's really hard to fit in a workout sometimes.

  • @Jarrids68

Capoeira is great! I think its the best total body workout and it constantly challenges you. I'm not really into the gym and the machines so capoeira really does the job. You should totally check it out. I'm sure that there is a group in your area that you could train with. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

kpdorr- I like spin, and I know maribeth goes several times a week.  The class I go to is 45 minutes, I think her class is an hour.  Take a towel & a bottle of water with you, and if it's your first class, don't try to add much resistance.  Just focus on keeping your legs moving and your breathing under control.  Also- your butt will probably be sore, so leave a few days between spin classes at first.  You'll get used to it though, I was ok after about 2 classes, some people have tender rumps for about 4 classes.
  • @Kpdorr - I LOVE spinning, I go about 2-4 times a week. My class is about 45 min on weekdays, and we're working up to an hour on sat mornings. I really like spinning bc you control the level of difficulity, and when I feel myself getting stronger I up the resistance a little more to get that extra kick in a workout. Medicapril has some great advice for a first class. I would also make sure to get there early and tell the instructor it's your first class so s/he can help you set the bike up.

@Colette - I love total body workouts like that, I might have to check it out!

  • I guess this is just the motivation I need, since I've really fallen off the wagon this past week.  I did do some of my pilates, and the regular walking, but I over-ate pretty badly.  I'm going to try really hard this week to do better.

  • Happy Monday!

After a couple weeks of feeling what I can only think was a plateau, I'm so happy to have finally busted through it! Diet's been quite disciplined over the past couple of week's (lean meats, veggies/fruits, complex carbs like quinoa and brown rice, lots of kale and spinach!) and I've even managed to stay away from the sweets at the end of dinner (my fiancee has quite the sweet tooth.... as do I....). Skipping dessert has been the hardest part, but well worth the effort. :-)

Since I knew I was going to be working and writing all day today with my dissertation advisor, I was able to knock out a 2-hour swim early this morning. I did a lot of interval training and at the end of it all I swam 3,800 meters! Yesterday I went to the gym and did a circuit consisting of deadlifts, burpees, jumping jacks, air squats, and an ab circuit; then did 30 minutes on the eliptical. My left knee had been a little sore from running so I scaled back my distance a little bit and have opted for some lower impact cardio. Knee's already feeling better so I should be back on the road running later this week.

I'm definitely looking forward to making some much needed progress this week!

    Have a great day everyone!

  • Happy Monday!

I'm lacking motivation today.  It's cold and dreary and I'd rather go home and sleep!

Friday, I worked out hard on the cross-trainer.  On Saturday, I ran 1.5 miles and shaved 4 minutes off my time.  I decided if I'm going to go to the gym, but want to work out for less time, I better make it worth my while.

    Sunday was my rest day.

I'm debating between spin class, yoga, and just basic cardio today.  But I just can't get myself going.
  • Friday I ran 5k, Sat - Zumba and Spinning classes and Sun was Strength class and running interval sprints on the treadmill. Headed to spinning again right now!
  • Bad weekend for me, I had class both Saturday and Sunday 9-5.  It's a Violence and Abuse in Adulthood class so it takes all your energy and drains you.  I will say though that my mindset is different.  Instead of stopping like I used to do, I feel blah for not working out, but I know tomorrow will be much better.   It's interesting to see the mind change over time.  Today I have my internship and class in a few minutes, so just easy office exercises and fab ab february.  Kept up with the diet.

Lookin forward to getting back on track!
  • I did my Insanity workouts Sat and Sun (I skipped Friday because I had an 11 hour day at work, so I took that as my rest day instead of Sun), and today I did the fit test for the second time.  I improved on everything (on some things quite a bit!), and I've lost .5 inch off my waist, 1 in off my hips, and .25 off my arms so far (after two weeks).  I'm pretty impressed!  I'm still sore almost every day, but now it's just enough so I can tell I got a killer workout, not so much that it hurts to live!

  • Nice job everyone!  Keep up the great work.

I have not posted in a while but I have been very active.  I am still looking forward to being able to lift weights and more upper body work outs.  It has been about 2 months since I severly sprained my wrist and am still babying it.  some days are better than others.  My cardio and running have been great.  I am almost up to an hour running straight.

Today was a rest day for me but tomorrow is heat yoga
  • Went to body pump (strength class), followed by spin. shwew... it was a long workout but felt GREAT!!!
