Getting in Shape

Weight advise needed

I have started a healthier life without expecting to lose as much weight as I have because I had always had so much trouble with weight loss in the past. Well, the last time I tried my dress on was 10 pounds heavier ago and it was loose then. I'm the lightest I have ever been and love it, but I would really like my dress to fit. I honestly don't know which route to go at this point. Should I try to put the weight back on to fit in the dress? This seems like a horrible thing to do, but I'm scared of the price of alterations. Should I try to maintain my current weight for the alterations or keep going with the healthier lifestyle and try to get as fit as possible? I don't know what would be the option and would love to hear others opinions. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this. :

  • One, congratulations on the weight loss!

That being said, I can't see any reason in the world to gain weight, especially not even for 'the' dress.  You said you "love" being this size, so why would you change yourself for any amount of money?

If it were me, (oh to be so lucky and have this problem!) I would call your alterations lady (or a few reputable ones if you still have options) and explain your problem and budget limitations.  See if there is anything they can do to the dress within your budget before trying to do anything to yourself.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  • ditto to PP.  NEVER change yourself for clothes. =)  clothes can be altered, but you should always feel stunning!

is your dress a corset back?  the easiest way to dramatically change the size might be to add in a corset back (cut down the back of the dress, so that you cut out a few inches, making the dress smaller...and then you can add in the corset laces to tie it all back together)

if you dont want to/can't do that, my guess is they'll just nip and tuck a bunch of places wherever they can - usually seams and such.

No. No. No. No. And No. Why would you purposely be unhealthy and try and gain weight to fit into a dress? 10 lbs is about 1 size - I cannot imagine you alterations will be that expensive to just take it down 1 size (which is probably about an inch or so). Congrats on the weight loss, but try to have a more positive outlook! Your dress not fitting is a good thing.

I agree with all of the above, but I will say that with only 3 months to go, I'd probably consider going into maintenance mode. Keep working out, but try not to lose any more weight than you have already -- figure out how many calories you need to eat each day in order to do that and try to stick as closely to it as possible.

  • Alterations aren't cheap, but if you are happy with the weight you are, I think they would be totally worth it. Think how much you spent on the rest of the wedding. Thank how great you'll look on your honeymoon, too!

  • May I ask what you did to lose so much weight when you stated you had a lot of trouble in the past with weight loss? I've lost weight before but I'm having issues at the moment getting motivated and my wedding is 4 months away! I'd like to lose 30-35 pounds but I'm not sure that is possible in 4 months especially with dress alterations etc. I just need to get started again and then i'll be good. I just can't bring myself to get motivated! Cry

  • I did Herbalife. I lost 30 in about 6 months. The shakes are awesome and you don't even feel like you are dieting.
