Getting in Shape

I need some advice!

Hello all,

My wedding is April 21, so I've got just about 100 days. I just had a baby in September and put on 60 pounds. For 4 months I've been trying to get rid of some of this weight by eating really healthy (I can't diet since I'm breastfeeding) and I've been working with handweights and dancing. However, I haven't lost a SINGLE pound. Does anyone have any advice for me? I don't have the money to join a gym or buy any special equipment, but I don't know what else to do!

  • How about inches?  Are you losing those?  Do your clothes fit better?  Try not to get too fixated on the # on the scale (I'm still learning this too :) )

Good for you for eating healthy, that is extremely important in any fitness routine.  I would suggest using a website like sparkpeople or myfitnesspal to track your calories in vs calories out.  It's free and it keeps you honest.  In addition, make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

There are many websites that offer fitness videos or at home work outs.  I don't have a gym membership either but I work out 6x a week at home.  I use dumbbells, run, and do videos. It can be done!  GL Defining!

  • I would also recommend a stroller and some walking.

  • Just a heads up, if you do use a site like myfitnesspal.com or sparkpeople, be aware that breastfeeding is like 200 calories a day (according to my sister who had a baby last year)

My sister ended up losing like 20 lbs when breastfeeding because she didn't increase the caloric intake to account for those 200 calories she was losing during breastfeeding.

Make sure you're eating a healthy amount of food every day (if you are breastfeeding I imagine you NEED to eat over 1600 calories a day in order to make sure you're getting all the nutrients baby needs.) - I would check up with your doctor and they can probably let you know what the healthy amount of calories would be for your height/size while breastfeeding.

    Goodluck!
