training for a race

im thinking about starting to train for a race - starting small of course. ive never been a runner, but would really like to give it a shot. what kind of training program should i start myself on? there is a 5k in august dont know if ill be able to go from a low fitness level to able to run a 5k in that amount of time but id like to try if possible? any insight from runners would be great!
