Getting in Shape

Boot camp

For Christmas my mom bought me a six week boot camp thing. At the time it seemed like a great idea. I've always wanted to try one and it's for six weeks so it's not like it's a terribly long time. The thing is we go in tonight for an orientation thing and to learn some basic moves. I'm sort of nervous. I'm not really in the best shape but I have been working out.
I know it's just my nerves getting the best of me, it's like starting a new gym class I always stand in the back until I'm more comfortable.  I just get the feeling I won't be able to stand in the back of this. Further more the guy teaching all this just sent me an email and it sounds like I'm going to get my butt kicked. That's not a bad thing I'm actually looking forward to that, but I don't know. Has anyone else done one of these bootcamps and liked it?  I know once I'm there I'll be fine it's more like all the time until then. Undecided

Re: Boot camp

  • I did a fitness bootcamp last year and I loved it.  I didn't renew at the end of the course because it just didn't fit into my schedule well, and I really wish I could find one that did.

We met three times a week for about an hour.  Not much time at all when you think about, but I was almost always sore during those 6 weeks.  It was great.

I understand your nervousness, but try not to worry too much.  In my class, I was the only new person in a group of 10 women who had been doing it together for several sessions and I felt weird at first, but they were great.  They had all been new once, too, and put me at ease pretty quickly.

    You'll love it!
  • Boot camps are great.  But remember your limits.  I've heard of some instructors who push participants too hard that they get injured.  If you aren't ready/able to do something, then don't.  But boot camps are a great way to get in shape.
  • Focus on your goals and what you'd like to get out of it. It's great that they have an orientation for it. It should make you feel more comfotable after you know how to do all the moves correctly. Also, you can learn some excercises that you can do on your own after the 6 weeks is up and that's only if you don't sign up for another session. Everyone is new at some point! Have fun with it!

  • I can't wait for it to start. I think it's like the first day of school your excited, nervous and scared all at the same time. It will be fine as soon as I get there I know that. Thanks everyone.
