Stress Eating

Anyone else dealing with wedding stress related overeating? I didn't think I was a stress/emotional eater but these past two weeks have proven otherwise. Any tips? I've been so stressed and sleep deprived from the wedding planning that I've been eating constantly and not healthy. Help!

Re: Stress Eating

  • That was me a few years ago.  I have found that keeping a food journal really helps, and you can also record your mood at the time.  So for example if you see a patern, like around a certain time each day you just eat out of anger or frustration then maye you can go out for a run or do kickboxing or something instead to get your anger out that way.

I have also found that if you make a long list of things to do (non food related) when you are feeling stressed then you can go to that instead of going to the fridge.  Of course if you really, truely are hungry you should give yourself a healthy snack.  Water may also help, sometimes we think we are hungry but we are really just thirsty.  Here is a sample list:

    Hope it helps!

    Call up a friend
    Watch a funny movie
Get out of the house and go for a walk (this helped me most because it takes you away from where the food is and takes your mind off of it.  I found this very helpful...plus at the same time you are not stress eating, you are exercising!
    take a long, hot bath
    listen to your favorite music
work on a project, maybe a scrapbook

Just anything that diverts you from taking your stress out on food.  Good luck.. a lot of us struggle with ths so do not think you are alone.

Feel free to message me if you want to talk :)
  • I'm majorly guilty of that right now.  I'm trying to keep things like cucumbers in the house - nice and crunchy and I can eat an entire one for like 30-some calories.

Otherwise, I just get myself out of the house and away from the food!  I go for a walk or call a friend or play with the dog until it's passed.
