Workout Accountability : Wednesday

Good Morning!

Last night was yoga x.  90 minutes of yoga!  I got through most of the workout, much to my surprise, while FI had a bit of a struggle with some of the moves requiring more flexibility.  I love him, but it was sometimes hysterical to watch.
Today is legs and back.  Eating is still on track, though I found I needed to up my calories a bit, and lost a lb in doing so - wohoo!

How are you ladies doing this morning?

Anniversary

Re: Workout Accountability : Wednesday

  • Yay, Lobsters!  I love eating more and losing!

I did a half hour of weights and half hour of the bike at the gym last night.  Eating was ok.  Today's plan is cardio.  I'm not sure what I want to do though.

  • Lobsters - P90X is a great workout!  Is this your first time doing the program?  Yoga was always my least favorite and have to admit I did not always do it (I would run instead sometimes).  Legs and Backs is on of my favs and I still continue to use that workout even though I am not following the program.

Yesterday I went to a great Spin class.  It was the Spinning challenge, it always kicks my butt!  (but in a good way!)  Eating was great yesterday.  Today's plan is Body Pump after work!

also made frozen nutella popsicle....just milk and nutella, mix  separate and freeze, each one was about 50 calories and tasted like a fudgesicle!  such a nice treat :)

tonight is gym night, thinking about taking a spin class....not sure if my butt can handle it though haha

I just did legs and back this morning! I have been doing Insanity, but I found it a bit hard on my body. I love how P90X takes care of you and I feel great (if exhausted) after!

Last night was my rest night. Tonight back to the gym for a C25K workout and arms, chest, and back. FI says he sees a difference in me but I just don't see it yet. We decided we may run a 5K right before the wedding just to say we did. Never did I think I would every run a 5K, so I hope I can pull it off.

I did my last speed work last night before my race this weekend. 3.5 miles of accending intervals with .25 mile rests between .5 mile intervals. Now race is up in the air a difficult decision to make maybe you ladies will help me.

The back story is that this weekend is the weekend of a race I really love called the survivor harbor 7. I love this race because they have a survivor class for those who have survived catostrophic accidents, cancer, or live with longterm diseases that can either kill or disable them. I run in the survivor class and thus my number is a different color than the standard class. Its very emotional for me to run alongside knowingly those who have struggled or are struggling to live let alone compete as athletes. As a runner with my condition I know someday I will not run anymore that will be taken from me, and I enjoy every run I have no matter how painful knowing it could be my last. I won my first age group award in this race and the last 2 years I have not been in the best shape due to injury and medication adjustments to deal with the heat and distance. This year I'm in prime condition running Sub 8:30's which will mean an age group award. I also really love watching the hand carts get lead out by bag pipers I cry everytime they start its so moving to see those missing limbs, or paralyzed still competing.

The SH7 is a very hot race in the morning through the inner harbor. It is beautiful but hot hot hot with no shade. Last year the water stops were not good, this year they have appeared to fix the problem.

Here is the dilema there are no hotels available this weekend on the inner harbor. I have not payed for my race entry yet. We can stay in baltimore but it will be about 10 miles out and parking can be a pain. The race starts at 7 am so driving 2 hours in from VA having to be there by 6 isnt the best option.

This weekend is also the weekend of the run my Fiance and I met at 2 years ago. That run is the night before the SH7 and is 4 miles. It is the Twilight 4 miler. If I run this I can not run 7 miles in the morning for speed and I would not be able to go. Fiance who swore he'd never do this one again is now pushing to run it for our 2 year since I'd mentioned before I was kind of sad it was the same weekend. (Note e-ring should be in soon and he wants to do official proposal it could be in by friday for all I know).

Now the SH7 is a guaranteed age group award probably. The 4 miler its doubtful it will be 10 degrees warmer. However this 2 year is very special since we've agreed to be married and it would be a very sentimental race since Fiance does so few.

Which race would you do ladies?

  • trud - Did you finish the program (aside from swapping out for running)?
turtles - Are you doing the whole program?
I am really becomming a p90x addict - I love the way I can feel my muscles/body changing, even as early day 10 and before the results are really setting in.  I always had a good weight routine at the gym, but this is just awesome.

dew - Thanks for sharing the back story, it was very touching to read, and I'm really inspired by you and your motivation.  I do have to wonder if your e-ring is in and he didn't tell you to save it for Friday ;) but if the other run means more to you, you need to tell him that.  I don't think any of us can tell you which one to do - I think you need to go with your heart on this one, and be proud of yourself for running, no matter which race wins out.

    Anniversary
  • Dewing - Just from what you wrote it sounds like you want to do the SH7. Maybe you and your FI can run the race you met at next year for your 3 year anniversary?

Last night I did 45 minutes of light cardio on my bike. My legs are feeling really tight today, but it's supposed to be my gym day. I will probably go to the gym and take it a bit easier than I usually would, or maybe focus on lifting for my arms.
    image
  • I ended up doing just some ab/leg work on my own yesterday since I went to a meeting with my FI.  But, I managed to stay on track food wise!

Today will be tricky - I planned on going to the gym after work but I need to meet our realtor and see a house.  FI is grilling steaks tonight, so I'm watching what I eat this afternoon in anticipation.  I think I'll make a nice side salad and grill some corn on the cob, too!

  • Dewing - your post really touched me.  Best of luck with your decision - you can't make a wrong one.

Yesterday I did pilates, but the instructor seemed to go really easy on us.  I was kinda disappointed.  This morning I lifted back, did some abs, and did 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill.

With less than a month to the wedding, I am finding that I NEED my workouts for stress relief!  It's either that or drink.  LOL.  I'm choosing the workouts, MOST of the time!

I actually did my first round starting January 1. I dropped 16 lbs on that and am now down 25lbs (two dress sizes.) I love all the support I recieved from my Beachbody coaches and their suppliments are some of the highest quality. I have done Brazil Butt Lift and Hip Hop Abs too.

I am now using P90X and Insanity to suppliment my running. My top distance is currently 3 miles. Hoping to get that up to 5 by the end of summer!
Lobsters, I think you've won me over to trying P90x after the half marathon training.  I've been thinking about it for a while, and the rave reviews today make me think it would be a good idea. Posted by kwitherington
I was really aprehensive about trying P90X, but I am so glad I did! Tony is corny as heck but he really takes care of your body and teaches you to use it properly. My best advice is to become a customer of a coach you trust, if Lobser is one I am sure she would help you a lot!

  • erbear-can I come for dinner?

kw- Wohoo-come join us!  And good to hear that the running is a little less painful this week!

turtles- we're actually using the booklet more than the video, since we do the weights at the gym.  Yesterday, though, we needed it to help with some of the yoga positions.  FI gets home, comes in the door and hears Tony and goes 'who's the guy with the creepy soft voice?' - it was too funny.
Insanity looks like too much for me - I really think I'd burn out on it, but I like your idea of integrating the programs with running.
I'll probably take a break once I'm done with the program (last day is day before our wedding!) for a month or so, then may go back for round two.  The round two results I've seen are insane!  For now, I'm just hoping for toned arms for the wedding and a flat enough belly to feel comfortable in a two-piece bathing suit for our honeymoon.  I'm already seeing the changes in my arms, and can't wait to take another set of measurements at the end of week four.

  • Awesome Lobster! I saw results in my arms first too! You will be happy for the break, but I was definitely excited to get back to it! Wish you the best with your progress!!

  • Sounds like everyone's doing good today!

Lobsters - glad you're having success with P90x! I would totally do it if I could find it for super cheap (like, student with no job during school cheap) somewhere.. I'll have to shop around!

Dewing - Like someone else said, there is no wrong choice to make. However, I also got the feeling from what you wrote that you want to do the SH7.

Today I'm going to go out for some exercise if it ever stops thunderstorming. I am so sick of rain! And it's only just begun, we can expect this for like the next month. My eating was good yesterday, and it will be good again today, especially in case the weather doesn't improve!

  • Thank you ladies, I want to do both thats the quandry.

I feel like my wants for SH7 are selfish on one level. The last 2 years I was not in top shape, I'm at top spring shape right now. I'm capable of running a sub 9 race. Im capable of going age group award. Note I've set PRs in both of my spring races so far, and taken age group in one of them. If I do SH7 he will run the 4 miler, I will run the grueling 7. I will probably run my electrolytes out. Its  more expensive and planning a wedding I'm trying to cut costs. Plus I'm pretty perterbed about how badly last year's SH7 was set up, looks like they fixed the errors but it was not good last year.

The Twilight there is no shot of age group its going to make me feel like hell to do it. But I get nostalgia, and I really want that too. He is not a runner by trade, he can run he won an age group award earlier this year, but he doesnt run often. I am the athlete between the two of us. Its also more affordable, and I dont have to drive to B-more.

I'm leaning towards the 4 miler, but I know what I'm capable of running the 7 in which is what is perturbing me. Its completely inconvienent at this time for me to go run that race. FI is not one to freely offer to run a race, he sometimes runs one with me for giggles, but never offers up to run one on his own. Usually he is my cheering squad holding a bottle of pedialyte. This fall he'll probably be the one to drag me into a medic tent when I cross the 70.3 line because he's a champ like that. So I feel obligated for a lot of reasons to do the 4 miler. The nostalgia would be awesome, but my one time running the race it was also one of my most miserable races ever. Either one of these will be misery. But the less money, more nostalgia, get it over quicker factor is leaning me towards 4 miles over 7. I'm realistic in 90 degrees I'm going to run 9:15 or 9:30s, but since its only 4 miles I maybe able to push depending on how I physically feel and if I can stay cool.

  • I love these daily posts!

About to go on lunch for work and I got hom and get on the treadmill. That's my workout.

Also this morning I have egg whites and black coffee YUM hahaha

  • Yesterday FI had a crappy day so he wanted comfort food.  It was very challenging to find a healthy option at the market but I succeeded with sugar snap peas, broccoli & raisin salad and a bowl of chicken tortiall soup.

This morning we went to the gym and I got in 30 minutes on the treadmill.  We are going for a dance lesson tonight I figure that will burn some calories as well.

I have done the complete program - with the exception of the yoga swapouts!  I found it to be very satisfying to complete and I felt the best I had felt in a long time!  I am considering starting up again in August - but am currently working out with the personal trainer who I really like.  However, P90X is much cheaper than him!!!

I have also done the program with just doing the 3 weekly resistance and ab ripper
workouts and then did my own cardio, spinning or running, on the other days.  I really liked doing it this way to as I found the Plyo got to be a bit much on my joints after a while!

I can't wait to hear about experience with it.

  • Hey everyone!

Today is training day and I'm so happy to be back in the gym. I've got a nice bandage on my foot still as after yesterday's workout my sock rubbed on the scab (the laceration was on the top of my foot... which sucked), causing it to bleed a teeny tiny bit. I know. Gross. But I'm all bandaged up and am hoping to get in a good upper body circuit done for 30 minutes followed by running/walking/jogging for 30 minutes. I figure I'll run until I feel any slight discomfort.

    Have a great one!
