Getting in Shape

Help me Ladies Please!!

Hi Ladies!
I am getting married August 11, 2012. Yay 6 mos to go! However, I have been trying to get into the perfect bridal shape... I have a strapless dress and need to tone my back and triceps among other things ! Overall I just really want to loose about 5-10lbs. I am stuck at my weight though! I go to the gym 3-4x per week calorie count.. any ideas???

  • Sounds like maybe you've hit a plateau - mix it up a bit. If you are eating consistently under your calorie goal, have a single day where you increase your intake by 300-400 calories just to kind of shock your body. You could also try mixing up your cardio, if you run every day, maybe try a zumba class or something?

    Also, if you haven't already tried this, incorporating weight lifting into your exercise regime will help you tone as you try to lose weight.

    I am trying to switch it up and do different things at the gym. Have any good tricep exercises? I do kickbacks, behind the head lifts, dips..
  • The behind the head ones are really quite bad for your shoulders.  But 2-3 exercises for each muscle group is plenty--as long as you're doing them to muscle exhaustion.

    Doing something as simple as changing the order you do the exercises in can make a difference.

  • Switch up your routine. Try something new. And I ditto the weight training.

  • Also, how many calories are you eating/burning a day?  Are you tracking really carefully and honestly?  If you're not tracking really carefully and honestly, you could be eating way more than you think.  You could also be not eating enough.

  • If you are exercising that much and not losing weight it sounds like you aren't eating correctly. I did nutrition program that helped me lose about 8 lbs in 3 months but I didn't exercise that much. If I did exercise as much as you do I'm totally confident I would have lost even more. If you are interested, pm me. Otherwise, just start thinking about proper nutrition.
  • Pushups are also great for triceps.  I do dead lift/row combos (great for back and shoulders) with dumbbells.

    I agree with PP, add weight training.  Free weights are better than machines (they work the stabilizer muscles more) IMO and the more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolism.

    Not sure what your diet is like, but if you drink soda (reg OR diet), get rid of it.  White bread, white pasta, white rice...get rid of them.  Don't just count calories, make those calories count - they should come mainly from veggies, whole grains, lean protein in that order.
