Kettlebells?

Anyone else use them?  I absolutely LOVE them!  I started going to an all kettlebell gym a few months ago.  My fiance goes, too.  It is pricey, but definitely worth it! It is such a great workout!

Re: Kettlebells?

  • They are great! I've only done one class with them, and I sure felt the effects afterwards! I think my gym (at my university) offers a couple of kettlebell classes, but I'm not prepared to pay money for them when I can use the other equipment for free...
  • Love them! My fiance just opened a CrossFit gym and it's been great wedding-shape-prep!

  • I'm a DEVOUT Crossfitter and we use KBs all the time... by far my single favorite piece of equipment!

  • So, what is special about kettlebells? I don't know much about them; mostly just what they look like and it seems like I see people doing swinging motions with them. It always looked dangerous to me because with free weight you're taught not to swing the weights and move with slow controlled movements, so I'm interested to hear about kettlebells!

  • I would definitely make sure you are being supervised when you learn to use them. You want to make sure your form is correct with a light weight before you move to heavier weights. I would highly recommend a CrossFit gym and I know there are a lot in CO (there are like 5 in Colorado Springs alone which is insane). Ketllebells and other CrossFit exercies are all about whole-body movement so that you're not wasting time and you're always using multiple muscles. Good luck!

  • I go to a gym called Punch Kettlebell gym, it is very similar to Crossfit.

<div>Couldn't have said it better... but the deal with KBs... hmmmm?  Where to begin.  </div><div>
</div><div>KBs are probably the single most useful total body work out piece of equipment.  KB swings are great for your posterior chain (read great butt and back) and also can double as a cardiovascular movement.  Sumo Deadlift high pulls, or Goblet Squats/ Lunges can shape your legs.  Hold the KB and you can do weighted Russian Twists.</div><div>
</div><div>Pair up some of these movements with things like pushups, some running, and you've got a complete workout with one piece of equipment.  Plus, they are FUN!!!  Seriously, KB swings are fun!!!</div><div>
</div><div>Definitely get some coaching on how to do a KB swing and some of these moves correctly, but there are also tons of KB workouts listed online...  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /></div>

  • Yes, you definitely need coaching.  Good form is very important with KB's
