Workout Accountability: FRIDAY!

Yeah Friday! It's been a long week.

Last night I ran 5 miles and felt great!  The sickness is officially gone! And no side cramping issues like I had last time, so I'm hoping that was just a one-time thing and related to my cold.

Tonight will be weights for legs and then a quick round on the elliptical.  I have to cut my cardio a little short tonight since I made plans with a friend (Christmas movies!).

How did you guys do?  Weekend plans?

I couldn't be happier that it is Friday!  I did the cross ramp at the gym last night.  It felt sort of weird starting out (has anyone else noticed that?), then I think I found my "groove" and it was alright.  It definitely worked muscles that don't I don't usually. I needed a break from running for awhile because it was getting boring doing similar workouts, plus I'm postponing my half marathon for warmer weather :).

This weekend will be relaxing.  I have no plans yet so we will see :)
  • I didn't do so great this morning :( I went to the gym but only did about 20 mins of cardio. I went to my FH's gym and I'd never been. The elliptical I was on wasn't working right (intervals weren't changing, heart rate monitor was off the charts) and my iPod playlist randomly got deleted! I ended up getting frustrated and leaving.

  • Yesterday I ran 5 miles!  I haven't run in a few months, so I was incredibly happy with this.  I am going to start training for a half marathon that is in May.

Tongiht I just want to do 60 mins on the elliptical.  I am a little sore from running and want to keep it low impact.

  • maribeth, don't be too hard on yourself.  You got in a 20 minute workout, which is better than no workout at all!

Sarah, nice job on the run!

  • Ran this morning.. I have been running 5k's on the treadmill in the past couple months. I have never been a runner before, and my first one took me a little over 36 min. I am running twice a week and am stuck around 32-33 min to finish. I just can't seem to get any faster. When I up the speed, I feel like I can't keep up and need to take little walking breaks. Any runners have any tips for me??

    Also, what is a siggy??

  • A siggy is a "signature" that appears at the bottom of what you post (text/pictures).

How much of an increase are you doing?  You might be going too hard.  I would reccommend only going up .2 at a time until you feel comfortable... do that for a goal time (say 30s) then go back to your comfortable pace.  Keep upping the speed and time for higher speed slowly so you don't get discouraged.  It is not going to be easy but it shouldn't force you to walk after each slight increase.
  • So glad that you are feeling better heyjude! Yay :-) And look at you getting 5 miles in, woot woot!

lbarr088- What is the cross ramp? I am very curious because I have gotten tired of running as well :-)

Nice job girls! :-) The weekend is here woohoo!!

I got in 6 miles today, again felt really good and I really want to set a goal for myself like a race for some motivation but I am struggling to do so.

  • amdesant - it's similar to the elliptical but it's a better workout IMO.  It's also supposed to have less impact then running and the elliptical.

Here's a link to the company that makes it:

I did the interval training on it and I could totally feel it in my legs.  It was a little weird to start at first because it forces your heels to remain in contact while your heels come off with the elliptical.
  • lbarr.. thanks for the advice.. will try it tomorrow!
