I have pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome)  my body has a resistance to insulin.  I have trouble losing weight.  Does anyone have any exprerience with this or know a good diet pan for this?

Re: best diet for pcos

  • If you haven't already, it might be beneficial to discuss diet options with your doctor and/or a nutritionist.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, I've never heard of anyone with PCOS. Goodluck!

  • I have PCOS as well and it's very hard for me to lose weight. I've been told some of the diets that are good for diabetics work well with people with PCOS. I take metformin for mine and try to avoid as much carbs and sugar as possible. I did paleo for a while and lost quite a bit of weight.
  • Maybe juicing or nutritional shakes?  Yoga or Tai Chi would be great too.

I'm a bit late on this but:

    1) ignore the poster above who suggested juicing and nutritional shakes; and

    2) if you are insulin resistant you may want to consider a Paleo approach - ditch gluten/grains, sugars, and industrially-extracted vegetable oils. I have ovarian cysts (but not full-on PCOS) and I have found that eating low carb (100g a day or less) and fasting and eating 2-3 meals a day instead of 5-6 smaller meals a day does wonders. • I'm in the same boat. I was also on Metformin for 3 months and it did nothing.
I've tried the Atkins diet (low carbs) and I lost 16lbs. in 2 weeks, but I felt awful. I don't think a diet made almost entirely of meat is a good idea.
For the past week I've used MyFitnessPal and (although with an unreliable scale) I've lost 3lbs. I've been working my butt off and it's been hard, but it seems to be working!
    I suggest:
    1) Talking with your doctor about the best option for you (mine was no help at all in the weight-loss department).
    2) Trying the typical calories out over calories in diet and try to eat healthy and exercise.
OR 3) Trying a low-carb diet (under 30g/day?). Just make sure you eat healthy!

    Good luck!
