Getting in Shape

a lil nervous

My wedding is in Feb (the 19th) and I bought my dress, but I figured I'd also like to lose some weight, and I guess I backasswards that whole thing.

I lost 8 pounds in the last month, and I'm nervous that my dress won't fit, but at the same time I'm also thinking that someone should be able to alter it .. right? I can't lose so much that I'd have to go buy a brand new dress, I think that'd be damn near impossible.

Someone have any thoughts? Am I nervous over nothing?

  • From what I've been told by seamstresses, a dress can usually be changed two sizes either way.  If you lose more than two sizes you may have a problem.  Unless you bought the dress small.  Then you would be able to adjust it two sizes from the size where it fits without alteration.

  • It really depends on the dress, but generally, as joesgurl said, a dress can be taken in at least 2 sizes.  By the time all was said and done, I had my dress taken in at least 2 sizes and it still look fantastic (though that might have been inpart due to the person that was wearing it).  You best bet is to talk to the seamstress who will be doing your alterations.  They'll know best.

  • One size = anywhere from about 10-30 pounds, depending on how much you weigh when you start.
