Newbie here....about to go straight out of my mind!!!

Hi all,

I have been reading on the forum and am loving it so far.  I am newly engaged.  We have booked the Chapel at Chestnut Square in Mckinney for our wedding and the Bevel House and Pergola there for the reception.  I am getting married March 9 and our guest list has exploded.  We started with a reasonable 70 and are now close to about 100 that we know WILL come.  We have plenty of room, but I'm paranoid because we all know Texas weather is about as unpredictable as it gets.  If it gets chilly, we will have multiple stand up heaters outside in the pergola where the DJ is which my coordinator said will keep it nice and toasty.  The only thing I'm worried about is RAIN!  That plus my childhood best friend is my MOH and while I already knew she is not very good with planning stuff, I am already overwhelmed.

Re: Newbie here....about to go straight out of my mind!!!

  • First of all, don't invite anyone else.  Is there a plan B for rain?  Because you will need it.

Otherwise, relax! :) The venue and guest list are the hardest part.  And this board is a great resource and everyone here loves to help.

Congrats on your engagement!  I attended a wedding there at that chapel and I believe they used the pergola as well (that's the open space like a patio right?)  It will be lovely.
  • Thank you!

And NO no one else is invited lol.  My fiance is from New Mexico and we had to do some "must invites so no feelings are hurt" and 100% sure on those that won't come and some or iffy so it could go even lower which would help.

Well the Plan B is moving the DJ into the Bevel House and adding additional tables on the wrap around porch which has a huge covering.  My wedding coordinator said that has happened before even with horrible rain and there wasn't an issue and it stayed very dry.  I just don't want to be cramped and as long as it doesn't rain, we are okay even if chilly.  But I would love if the weather was great and the outdoor pergola is so pretty.  Yes that is the outdoor patio.

That is my biggest worry.  The next is just the planning and little details itself.  I have a wedding coordinator from the place which she is super.  But my MOH, and attendants are all in Houston where I'm from originally so it makes it super hard on planning and my mom is also not a planner.

I was stressed about who would give me away as my father is not here to do it.  I am close to two of my male cousins who are brothers and can't ask one and not the other.  My mom wants to be able to watch me come down the aisle so I've gone way left field on my decision and while I know it's "MY day" it is somewhat unusual.  My 4 yo godson who was going to be the ring bearer is going to hold my hand and walk down the aisle with me.  Does that sound crazy?

</div><div>No! That sounds absolutely adoreable! This is you and your FI's day, and that means there are no traditions you have to follow if you don't want to! I've seen so many brides talk about walking with their dad, stepdad, mom, cousin, brother, MOH, sister, or just by themselves! Everyone is going to be too busy smiling and giggling at how cute he will be, and oohing and ahhing over you to even care! Your day should be special to you, your FI, and those most important to you!</div>
  • I think that is precious.  I had some problems with my dad before the wedding so I just chose to walk down by myself and my DH met me halfway.

Well the hardest part is done like I said.  The next things (assuming you have your dress) will be your other big vendors like photography, catering, florist, and cake, attire and accessories, and then the rest is just details.  Your venue coordinator can help you with things like logistics (what goes where, etc.) and she and your DJ can help with your timeline (how the reception flows).  It will be fine, don't worry!  And again, this board is a great resource.
  • My MOH who is my godsons mom told me, "be prepared he might wave and high five everyone on the way down" which i think would be too cute!

Well, I have sent out the save the dates, booked the dj, photographer, venue, decorating, bought my dress, caterer (we are doing heavy hourdouerves (sp) by Market Street) and the cake is being made by a childhood friend who does it for a living.  I know it sounds like I'm way ahead of the game which i am probably stressing over nothing.  I'm just a detail freak and the small things I'm worried about.

The decorating company who is a side part of the venue (my coordinator owns the decorating company) has all the decorating and flowers stuff handled except my bouquets which I'm looking at too.  I think I'm just worried I'll forget something and all the small details.  Coordinating my bridal party is a little hard with them in Houston and me in Dallas but I'm going to Houston this weekend so that's a start!  :)
  • Yeah I'd say you're in great shape.  You'll be fine!
  • Welcome to the board! Sounds like you are way ahead on planning! Don't stress too much, and try to enjoy : Easier said than done, I know.
