Getting in Shape

ladies on weight watchers...

Hello. I'm new on weight watchers. I'm about a week in. But I'm having trouble eating all my points. I've been coming up short about 10-20 opoints per day!

Is this bad?

I'm hoping to get to a meeting soon to ask a leader, but I've been too busy to make it in.

Thanks.

Re: ladies on weight watchers...

  • From what I understand (my mom and sister are on WW)you really need to try to eat as close as possible to all your points each day or you run the risk of not consuming enough calories and then won't lose well.  Perhaps adding in a few snacks like Fiber one bars or peanut butter toast?
  • You are supposed to eat all of them. I'm about 4 days in and have gone over my oints once (by 4) i'm also nursing so i get hungry lol. If you don't mind me asking how many points do you have?? I get 33.

  • I have a whopping 49 points. It seems insane to eat that much food to reach 49!

today i ate- two hardboiled eggs, a chobani yogurt, two laughing cow cheese wedges on 6 crackers, left over enchilada bake from dinner last night, some sauteed zucchini and tomatoes, broccoli, and a baked chicken breast with some BBQ sauce.

That seems like A LOT of food to me. And I'm not feeling hungry, I'm definitely full and satisfied with what I've been eating.

  • wow -- 49 points?!?  I have 30 points and was thinking you must have not eaten ANYTHING to be 10-20 points low!

Are you hitting all your health checks?  Enough dairy?  Enough healthy oil?

Are you sure you did your points correctly?  I think the meeting is going to be best for sure!!!

  • I get 26 points, and I feel like I need more, so I'm no help. =(

Yeah, it certainly does go that high.  And higher.

  • You can seriously eat a lot on weight watchers. Depending on the week and what I have planned, I track between 26-29 points each day. You need to add snacks! Everything you listed seems like "diet" food, and like you're just eating 3 meals a day. The reason ww works is because it really is a maintainable lifestyle. Here's what I ate yesterday, if it gives you any ideas:

    Granola Bar
    Turkey Sausage
    Fig Newtons
    Broiled Tilapia
    1/2c white rice with butter
2 dark chocolate raspberry Weight Watchers popsicles
    1 cup pepper jack soup
1/2 huge restaurant sandwich (pumpernickle, munster, corned beef, thousand island, and coleslaw - this was my 7 points, I don't eat these every day!)
Half a bag of regular popcorn

I think this came in around 31 points for the day.

  • You really need to eat as close to your target as possible. It's the minimum your body needs to function. Try eating more full fat, non-diet food. Instead of laughing cow, have 1oz of real cheese or a string cheese. Instead of the fat free chobani, get the 2%. Peanut butter and nuts are high points, but healthy. Are you getting in both of your oils?

  • FI has 54 points -- so it does go up that high!

As for the person who asked about online or meetings...I do it all online -- but as I just mentioned, my FI is ALSO on it -- so we motivate each other.  My mom and grandma are ALSO on it -- but they prefer the meetings.  I sort of feel like I have my own little "meeting group"

Getting support is definately key -- so it just depends on who you have in your life I think!

  • Agree with PPs- short answer- yes, it's bad; if you don't eat enough calories per day, your metabolism will go into starvation mode and start storing fat instead of burning it.  That does not do good things for weight loss.  :)

Also, I admit, as someone with a 26 point limit, I saw you say "short about 10-20 points per day" and panicked for a second that you were, like, only eating celery or something.  Don't do that, either.  :)
I'm not using WW, but I'm interested in it. Just wondering - do you ladies use the online version, or the actual meetings version?
    Posted by cebrady89
I go to meetings. I need the accountability. When I wasn't on WW I used SparkPeople, which you can track and give yourself  calorie/fat/etc. goals. There's nothing like having to face someone weighing you in on a scale!
  • To be honest with you, I'm going to disagree with everyone who says its important to eat as close to your points target as possible.  I always do because I get just 29 (now 26), but you say you're "full and satisfied" with what you've been eating--that's fine!  Pretend like you weren't doing WW at all.  You'd stop eating when you were full and satisfied, right?  (well, in theory...i overeat all the time, that's why I'm doing WW...but you know what i mean).  As long as you're not feeling hungry, listen to your body.  I think following your own hunger signals is much better than eating extra food just to reach the points target.

Your body will not go into starvation mode in less than a week.  If you're consistently eating 10 points less than your target and you're not seeing any movement on the scale for several weeks at a time,  then maybe I'd consider trying to eat a little bit more, but I don't think you need to worry about that at this point.
  • Thanks for all the great advice. I did make it to a meeting today.

I'm going to try to get closer to within a minimum of 5-10 points short.

I've also lost 4.8 pounds on my first week, so I'm doing something right!!
