Struggling

So my wedding is in 3 months and I am struggling to loose some weight!  I have heard all about these fad diets, HCG, Grapefruit diet etc..... and would love to loose about 25-30 pounds.  Anyone have any suggestions that have worked for them?

Re: Struggling

  • Please read the crash diets sticky at the top of the page.

  • In order to know if you losing 25-30 pounds in that time frame is attainable by healthy measures we need to know how overweight you are.  If you are 100 pounds overweight you probably would be able to lose 25 pounds in 3 months with a lot of hard work and serious calorie counting.  If you are only 30 pounds overweight there is no way you could lose that amount healthily in that amount of time.

It is hard for me to give weight loss advice when I don't know more specifics because I do not want to support anyone's unhealthy steps to losing weight.

More info and I can probably help you more.

  • i have a 100 calorie rule when it comes to snacks and deserts, i cut out a lot of sugar in my diet, cut out soda now i only drink low calorie drinks coffee (boost your motablalism) and water. i have also cut out fried foods and foods high in fat or sodium. i drink slim fast once a day instead breakfast (i work mornings its convient) i dont over eat, i dont eat till im stuffed just full. i also only eat 2 meals a day with a snack here and there.....i  work out 5 days a week. if i cant make it to the gym i do a mixture of yoga and strength training excerisies, if you have a wii you can use the wii fit to put a program together, or get a work out video or on demand. i do all that to tone my muscles and to burn the fat i dance, i have kids at home so i cant just go for a jog, so i dance and work up a sweat, i dont quit untill i have burned more calories then i have consumed.....i was 182 im now 168 and still loosing. its a lot of but i feel healthy, im not an expert but this is working.
  • Any diet that requires you do inject yourself with hormones, take pills, or starve yourself won't work. You may lose a few pounds to begin with, but you will find them again (and more). The trick to losing weight is that there is no trick - major bummer I know!

The only diet I have had success with is the South Beach Diet, and it's less of a diet and more of a lifestyle change. Think Good carbs and Good fats, and lots of veggies. FI likes it because he still gets to eat meat and sugar-free fudgecicles. It's not for everyone, and the first week is hard if you're pasta-lover like me. I lost 20 lbs in about 2 months when I started, but I was also 235 lbs when I started. As rknox88 pointed out that may not be healthy or realistic for you depending on your current weight.

And exercise. All the eating right in the world won't help if you don't move your body!
  • Take a deep inhale and focus on one day at a time! Don't beat yourself up for little slip ups - we all have them from time to time.
One thing that has helped me especially since I'm very busy with grad school during the fall and spring is to cook a couple larger meals on the weekend and divide them up for meals I can eat throughout the week. Bonus: also saves me time during the week and stops me from ordering out :)
I don't know if you drink a lot of water, but definitely increase your water intake if you don't.
Try to incorporate cardio and strength training into your week. I personally aim for 4 days of cardio and 2-3 days of pilates/weight lifting in my week. Although find which workouts you like best. Everyone on this board differs with workouts they like, find what you enjoy doing and you will be more likely to stick with it.
I hope that helps and good luck!!

  • I lost 8 pounds in a month by following sugested servings, not eating out, drinking a lot of water, cutting sugar off and excercising.  I do three miles in the elyptical three times a week and take a cardio ball class once a week, it has worked wonders.

I am not a fitness expert but this is what has worked for me.Laughing
