Getting in Shape

Monday New Members

So I realize it is getting late in the day but I saw this was the proper way to make introductions, so I thought I would get on board. I just got engaged last week, with a plan to marry in October 2011. I am very excited, I really wanted to be a fall bride. I am planning to start trying on dresses in Feb and am looking to drop 15 pounds by then. My fiance is very supportive and keeps telling me I don't need to, but I have put on almost 25 pounds since we started dating 2 years ago, so I think it is pretty necessary. I just moved about 1500 miles away from my friends and family to be with my fiance- so I have no real support system nearby. I am hoping I can get in touch with other brides to be because of that common goal, looking beautiful and healthy on that special day :D

Re: Monday New Members

  • Welcome everyone!

We try to foster an environment of improving one's overall health here at GIS, with the added benefit of looking great naked, so I'd say you've come to the right place.

First thing first, diets don't work.  At least, not in the long wrong.  The best way to make changes to be healthy for life is to make it a true lifestyle change.  Whether you change one thing at a time slowly, or jump in whole hog is up to you.

There are lots of great people here who have had a lot of awesome success doing things the smart way, so stick around, join in and ask questions if you've got them!

  • welcome! I am also getting married in October 2011 and looking to lose some weight. I am in the Army and recently injured my sholder aka No running or eliptical (its killing me). My family is split on being supportive of the wedding and I have little help in planning, my sister lives 13 hours away from me and she is my maid of honor so its hard.

I know this sounds rediculous but before you go try on wedding dresses start watching the show "Say Yes to the Dress." I had no idea how a dress appt was supposed to go because I was never that girl who planned out her whole wedding. The show teaches you the dos and donts of trying on dresses and I feel it will give you more of an idea.

As for weight loss, I live in MIchigan and our winter is coming really soon. My mother in law has been using Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. She has already noticed weight loss and inches in a month or two and you can do the workouts right in your home. I am starting the workout today so we will see!

    Good luck with your planning!
  • Hi!  I know it's not Monday anymore, but I'm also new to the boards.

I've been engaged for about three weeks and we just set a date for November 5, 2011.  I have been struggling for a while to adopt healthier habits and also to drop a little extra weight.  Recently, at my last physical, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which has explained some of my weight gain in the last couple years.

Now that I'm taking medicine and managing, I would like to shape up and lose some weight by eating better and exercising regularly.  Nothing crazy, no "dieting", just changing my habits and setting my new life up right!

  • Hi! I'd like to join in too. I've gained about 15 pounds over the last year, after losing that much while exercising daily and really watching what I ate. Have no idea what happened, but am tired of it! We are currently planning an October 2011 wedding (though the exact date can't be finalized until some things are settled).

So...would like to join in if I can, starting this coming Monday. My goals are:

    1.  Drink 8 oz. of water
    2.  Eat healthily - stay within my limits per my iPhone program (can't remember the name of it off the top of my head, but it's great - helps me watch my sodium as well as my calories and everything else)
    3.  Work out for at least 60 minutes - 30 minutes walking at work, then 45 minutes Firm Fat Burning.

    Okay, see you Monday 11/29!

    Linda
