Getting in Shape

Motivation is lacking! HELP!

Since January, I have lost about 12 pounds (down to 134 from 146, I am 5'6") I'm happy with my progress, and right at my ideal weight, but I feel like there is so much more I can be doing. I know I've lost the weight (thanks partly to eating right), but I really need the motivation to tone up! I want my arms to look rocking in my dress! And I'd like to flatten out my tummy and tone my legs a bit more.

In the beginning, I was all about going to the gym and tracking my food on MFP, but now I'm getting busier with wedding plans and things are picking up at work. There just isn't enough time to exercise as much as I was in the beginning and I've basically stopped tracking food, but I'm still aware of what I'm eating. Any of you experiencing this slump closer to your wedding date? I am three months out today! I need some encouragement!!

Re: Motivation is lacking! HELP!

  • First off -  congrats at meeting your goal weight. Second - ask yourself if you are actually needing to do more or if you are still seeing yourself as 12 pounds heavier.
I understand the arm wish.  Just do 30 pushups every morning and for the back of the arm stuff, 50 chair dips.

The good thing is that arms tone up faster than anything else.

And when motivation lacks - go for a hike. It is nice, works your thighs and butt, and kind of refocuses you.

  • First of all congrats on your weight loss! That's awesome!! As for motivation, have you considered trying out different forms of exercise? I know that I get bored with the same old gym routine but have found that trying different things (yoga, zumba, kickboxing) keeps me motivated. I know that you mentioned work getting busier and wedding planning too but (and please don't take this as me being mean because I mean it in the nicest way possible) are you using those things as an excuse? I know that it's hard to work out every day but you have to make yourself responsible for doing it. If you really want those toned arms, then make a schedule for yourself. Whether it be buying some hand weights for home and doing bicep curls while watching your favorite show or switching up your daily schedule to fit in 45 mins at the gym, if you want it, you need to make it a priority. It's so easy to say "tomorrow." With today being Friday, why not look ahead to your schedule next week... put in "gym" time every day and set alarms on your phone. When that alarm goes off, it's gym time. Done. Of course there will be some times that you will be in the middle of something and can't go but try not to let it happen too often. If you want some financial motivation, there's a website and app (the name is escaping me right now but you could google it) that you can put "bets" on how many times a week you'll work out. If you bet 3x/week for $5, then if you don't do it, your cc gest charged $5. Just a thought...

</div><div>It's amazing with your progress and being at your ideal weight!  Great job<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />.  What about doing a home dvd training program to tone?  You want to look for  a "burst style" workout program to help you become a fat burner and tone up.  What I like about these workouts is that it saves you alot of time while getting you into shape fast.  I think Doug Rice, the Knot's fitness trainer offers this burst style workout dvd program.  Check him out. There's also a woman name JJ Virgin with her <a href="http://www.mcssl.com/app/?af=1458130" rel="nofollow">http://jjvirgin.com/4x4workout-dvds/</a> who is famous for her "burst style" training. Check her out too and see who you like better.  </div><div>
</div><div>3 months is so exciting!  Keep your vision alive of having rockin arms and a flat tummy for your wedding day.  Take couple of minutes each day and visualized your tone arms and tummy.  Most importantly visualize how fabulous you're going to feel on your wedding day!</div><div>

  • Thanks for the words of motivation! Ashleigh, you are right... I am using work and planning as an excuse. If I really really want it, I will make the time! I will check out those DVD's and get back on track. Thanks again Ladies!!!
