Getting in Shape

Before and After - NROL4W

Well, as I've mentioned early this week, I finished up the New Rules of Lifting for Women program on Wednesday.  I had my H take my progress pictures this morning and I've updated them (and the results of my measurements) on my blog.

I know that I've still got a ways to go until I'm "healthy" but I'm really pleased with my results so far.  Starting next week I'll begin the program from The Female Body Breakthrough (henceforth to be known as FBB) and I'll be focusing even more on cleaning up my diet.

  • Awesome job Raynes!
  • You look great! Your shoulders/upper arms/collarbone area in particular look so lean!
  • Yes, awesome pictures!  I bet your clothes are all so baggy now.  13.25 is a lot of inches to lose!

  • Holy moly, 7 pounds of muscle added? That's insanely awesome. I think if I were you, there would be a never-ending chant of "muscles-muscles-muscles-muscles" running through my brain. You look great.

The change you made in your body with such a "small" weight loss is absolutely incredible. I've never been one to focus on weight (we don't even own a scale) but this really drives the "fitness not weight" message home for me.
  • Thanks everyone!

Wow, you can really see the difference! Great Job! I'm a little jealous(LOL) but definitely inspired...
    Congratulations!
  • Congrats on finishing!  You look great!  I think this is proof that you don't always need to lose weight (on the scale) to look fabulous!

  • Fantastic job, Raynes. Don't know how you have time to be so disciplined while you are so busy supporting all of us.  This is very encouraging to those of us that aren't seeing changes on the scale, but who are noticing loose clothes, more endurance and more tone.

  • I read the except about the book NROL.  How much weight do you currently lift.  What is a good weight to start out and how long using say 5 lb weights do you do that until you move up to 10 lbs. 15 lb etc?

I know I am beginner so I will do my 5 lbs for a while.  But how much weight do you use when lifting

  • Peony, it all depends on the lift, the number of reps and the number of sets.

Your purse probably weighs more than 5 lbs, so unless that's truely challenging for you, you should be using more.  I'm fairly certain that there was only 1 exercise that I ever used 5 lbs for (YTWL's).

I don't have my log sheets with me, but I'm squatting 80+lbs, deadlifting 85 lbs (which really isn't much, I need new shoes and want to try a new grip), for shoulder presses I use 20 lb dumbbells, and if it's only 6-8 reps I can do 25's.

  • that sounds reasonable.  I bet I could def lift more while doing deadlifts.  However when I am doing lunges in the Jillian Michael's video she does these arm raises to the side I think they are called laterals?  Well I can def feel it a lot with the 5 lbs in that move.. that is a hard move for me.. the lunge combined with that arm movement.. I feel when she does another move with arms raised up its easier.. but the motion of arms spread out like laterals really gets my chest and shoulders and arms all at once.

I guess you are right that it depends what move you are doing.

I'll increase it for stuff like deadlifts etc but those arm laterals I will work myself up to that.
