Getting in Shape

Why does my butt go away?

I'm a curvy petite girl, and I love my shape! Wanted the shed ~12 lbs to tone up a bit and I've lost ~9 lbs so far... BUT whenever I start to shed my BUTT goes away! What's up with that!? I'm just running  3-5 miles a few times a week!? Someone please explain or let me know if there are any good workouts to keep my back side perky! lol

Re: Why does my butt go away?

  • You need to tone up your butt again with theigh/butt exercises. There's lunges, bridges...which is when you lie down flat and push your hips into the air and squeeze your butt then go back down...or you lie down flat and push your hips up, stay up there, but pump a weight on one of your arms...there's lots of things.
  • Try doing some stuff like squats, lunges, and deadlifts.

Unfortunately, your genetics determine where you lose the fat from first. In your case, it sounds like you get to lose your butt first.  There's not much that you can do about that, but building the muscles well help your butt keep a nice shape and not go all pancake-y as you lose the fat from it.

I'm the same way. I lose weight in the butt and boobs first, instead of my spare tire, where I need it.

  • I'd love to have that problem, but that's just beccause my hips/rear are my largest measurement and of course it's like the LAST place I lose weight.

<div>I so wish I had that problem, my hips/butt are the biggest and fattest part of me. I got this way by doing lots of strength training as part of various sports, so I've got massively muscular thighs/butt but an extra layer of fat there too that refuses to go away. Anyway, I recommend strength training to build up your disappearing butt.</div>
  • Side Lunges activate the glutes the best.

Work in the 8-12 rep range, and use some  weights here,  dont be afraid to go a little heavier,  you're trying to build a little muscle there.

Rest 1 minute in between sets, TOPS,  this will help build some butt. 3-4 sets.

I also suggest Bench elevated Single leg squats,  and regular single leg squats.  KILLER for the Glutes.  And use weights!

Best part about really hitting the glutes is that they are a large muscle group, and working them will really stoke your metabolismn for total body burning.

    Good luck!

  • Dont know who this is,  but its a good example of the bench elevated SL squat.

Get down the body weight form first,  THEN add weight once you've mastered it.

They are hard when you get down deep,  but each one should be difficult.  It incorporates a lot of balance as well,  so don't be discouraged if they seem real tough at first.

Grab 10 or 15 lb dumbbells when you're ready

  • I am terrified that when I lose the rest of my weight I will also lose my curves...
But at least I'll feel more comfortable in our swimsuits!
