Bruises?

Not necessarily fitness related but don't know where else to post this.  I have a huge dilemma.  I bruise very easily I will wake up in the morning with these nasty bruises and I don't know how I got them.  I've spoken to my doctor about it and been tested for anemia and other stuff but nothing is wrong she says some people just bruise easily.

When I bruise they normally take about 2 weeks to go away so I've been telling FI that he can't touch me for the next 2 weeks in case I accidentally get a bruise.  I am curious if there are any remedies for making bruises heal faster or is my only option to put make up on in case I have visible bruises on my wedding day.

Anytime somebody sees a bruise I always get these worried questions about how did I get it (they look horrible).  It makes me feel like they think FI is abusing me and that is absolutely not the case.  I don't want people to think or ask on my wedding day.

Re: Bruises?

  • I have the same problem. I did have I think 2 small visible bruises on my wedding day but it wasn't so bad. If you go in my bio under getting ready pics you can see one on my forearm on the shot of me putting on a shoe. And in my formals there is one on my back. Aside from taking iron pills, I've never tried anything else.
  • I don't bruise easily but I have friends that do and swear by Arnica Gel/Cream.  Apparently it speeds up the healing process a lot quicker.  I've used the stuff for non-bruises like muscle soreness, etc. and it works fairly well for that.  I haven't tried it for bruising though.  Maybe it's worth a shot?  I got it at my local health supplement store (and I'm sure you can get it elsewhere) and it's under 10 bucks.
  • Have you been taking any medications? (pain relievers, cold medicine, diuretics) Check the ingredients for aspirin on anything you take (Aspirin is in A LOT of different medication). Aspirin will decrease platelet aggregation (increased bleeding & bruising). Avoid this to decrease your likelihood of bruising.

FYI, use ibuprofen (motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you need pain meds because they won’t increase bleeding time.

  • Thanks for the suggestion lbarr I am trying that out.

Liz - no meds of any kind, I've had this issue for many years now and I usually don't let it bother me but I'm being a little bit vain about the wedding.

  • If the concern is more about your appearance have you tried to use make up or maybe even tattoo cover up kits to disguise the bruised areas?

  • I bruise easily too. For the past 2 months, I have been taking arnica pills. It seems to be working.
