DECOR

Okay, so I wanted to buy all the supplies, flowers, etc. for my reception and ceremony. Do anyone know a person or ompany who can put all of centerpieces and decor together so I will not have too? I do not want a coordinator since one comes with the venue. I would like them to be knowledgeable about decor. I just dont want the hassle of having to worry about putting all those things together and then taking them down.....I definitely dont trust family and friends lol

Re: DECOR

  • Will your coordinator do this for you? If not, you may be able to hire a high school student to do it on the cheap.
I found my ceremony musician by posting a want ad on Craigslist, maybe that would help.
  • You might be able to find a coordinator or a coordinator's assistant who will do this for you. I.e. I am using week of coordination services which includes design/set-up/tear down even though my venue provides a coordinator. Plus side is that I can rest assured knowing my coordinator that I hired is there to look out for my best interest whereas I feel like the coordinator with the venue may be looking out for the best interest of the venue and time. Just a thought.
  • Ditto to aeliza...that's what I did, but my coordinator (and her staff of 2) failed MISERABLY. Thank goodness my florist and her team knew what they were doing and picked up the slack. They are the only reason it ended up looking as gorgeous as it did. Check references and make sure whoever you interview/talk to understands every single detail involved, and has done something similar before. Or else you'll end up wasting a few thousand dollars like I did. Yes, I'm still bitter about this!! ;-)

This.  I posted this in another thread of yours, but I recommend that hotel brides hire a DOC.  During my wedding, my "coordinator" was busy showing the hotel to other potential brides leaving me to my own devices.  She did set up my decor (along with my florist), but that was it, and she made several mistakes doing it.

I wasnt sure about a coordinator because I dont know how invloved they are with actual decorating. My coordinator said that she could but I didnt want to chance of it not looking the way i want. I just figured coordinators specialize in coordinating and not decor but maybe I can find one who can do both great :)

Oh my. sorry to hear this. I just figured for the price the florists want to charge, I could get bulk flowers for less and get way more. But all the event designers i have asked said they use their own florists and will only use my vases, etc for the design.

  • My mom's best friend is our local florist and they've had plans for my wedding since I was 10, so that was a no brainer for me!

Yeah it's too bad you can't hire Tami--she would be so great!

My coordinator did set up my decor but it wasn't DIY.  A florist will set it up for you.  I would at least meet with a couple of florists and get some quotes.  You might decide it's not worth the hassle.  If you get a good DJ they can run the reception and your photographer can keep you on schedule.  That's what I did and I ended up just fine without a DOC, but only because I hired great vendors.

I am using Celestial Events (Kathaleen). She is incredible. Even though I hired her for week of, she has been in contact with me every step of the way. She even came and helped during my bridals!

In terms of what you can do to make sure you effectively communicate your vision and design- do a run through with your DOC. See if you can meet beforehand, bring some decor with you, and take pictures. I am using clear storage bins for all my items with a checklist and picture on the outside. I.e. Table 1 box will have a 1 inside, all decor for said table in the correct quantities, and a picture on the outside of how the table should look/be arranged. This way, when it comes to tear down, everything will be put back how it should be, nothing goes missing, and things should be set up how I want. <div>
</div><div>In terms of non-table decor, I have a list and a illustration of what I want and where I want things. I am probably more OCD controlling than most, but your DOC should help you put all this together as well!</div>
  • aeliza...that's exactly what we did for my wedding! Down to noting if something should be turned at an angle, or straight! You're not off base from my OCD-ness! We had firepits around the venue and I bought pillows for all the chairs, four different colors (for the four chairs around each) and our DOC was to put one of each color around these firepits. Nope, she didn't even do that simple job right. Each firepit had all red, or all purple, etc. Fail.
  • It's likely that the coordinator that comes with the venue won't set up your centerpieces.
I had a coordinator through my venue and she specifically told me that "decorating" was not part of her duties unless I was using their centerpieces.

  • wow. Oh well. I went ahead and signed a contract with Antebellum Events CO. I really liked Marian and she made me feel at ease about everything. And her prices were very reasonable compared to others I received. Im happy with my choice. I figure the amount Im paying her to do everything, I would be spending that amount myself buying all the supplies and then paying someone to do it. I dont need the added stress of making sure the person I hire will do it the right way etc. I know she will and her work is amazing too. Thank you everyone for your input.

I recently got a flyer by a company called Blissful Celebrations. The altar looks start at $1,500. You can go more extravagent if you want for more money. They have a very nice website www.blissfulcelebrations.com. I met the lady and she is flexible and very helpful. She is even willing to help me with the table decor items etc... If you are looking for setup and decor help then you don't really need a planner and I would say spend the money with them and get your money's worth.
