Too High BMI

So my FI and I were calculating our BMI's and we found out that for a man he is Obese and I'm normal. So right now he's at 225 lbs and wants to go down to 165 lbs! Thats a whopping 60 lbs to lose!!! He doesn't like redundancy (Redundancy, is that even a word?) He has about 6-7 months to lose the weight and we know if he loses it quickly it'll come back even quicker! So if anyone knows any great diet tips or healthy eating tips that worked out well for them please enlighten us!!

Re: Too High BMI

  • Just a thought:  BMI calculators don't account for muscle v. fat, so your FI may not be obese after all.  He looks like a pretty muscular guy from the picture of the two of you.  I'm not at all discouraging his desire to lose any excess weight and get healthy, but he may want to consider his build as well as his weight in deciding how much to try to lose.

  • Ditto veritastonri, she speaks the truth. ;)

BMI is kinda of a crap way to determine health, since it only looks at weight.  Body fat is a much better indicator, but measurement tools are pretty inconsistent.

  • Ditto previous posters, BMI is total crap. It's really only good to compare large numbers of people. There isn't really a cheap way of measuring health in that respect. FYI- my FI is considered overweight (BMI)  and he's 5'11 and 180 and wears a size 34 pants,  that's nuts. I would just recommend that your FI focus on healthy eating and exercise habits.

  • Yeah It says I am overweight too in that my BMI is 25 lol
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • So basically he just might need a diet change and some normal routine exercise and he'll get the change he needs?? Because he really wants to be healthy....
