Getting in Shape

Chocolate, Cookies, and Candy everywhere

Someone save me from my desk!  I have a box of chocolates sitting on my desk, with two chocolate lollipops, compliments of my coworkers.  Plus we're having a bake sale for Kids with Cancer, and some of my coworkers are really good bakers (everything is homemade on the table!)  I want to eat it all!
It's really hard not to start diving in, but I have drinks with FI's coworkers on Friday so I want to look good.  Nearly every woman who will be there is a personal trainer and already looks incredible...le sigh.
Someone else please tell me they're having a hard time today, too...?

Re: Chocolate, Cookies, and Candy everywhere

  • Don't suffer.  Pick one little thing and enjoy it.  I'd hide the rest though.  Out of sight, out of mind and all that.
  • You do realize that eating some chocolate and a cookie will NOT make a difference in how you look 4 days from now?

I mean...I'm a huge advocate for healthy eating.  But I'm also a huge advocate for moderation and nothing being off limits.  If you want candy or cookies badly enough to make a post about it, have some!  Just don't eat 10.  Be reasonable.  There MUST be a place in every healthy eating plan for the things you truly enjoy.

But don't eat it just because it's there.  If you truly want it, go for it.  If you want to eat something you don't really enjoy just because it's everywhere, it's time to put things out of your sight and distract yourself.  Or get a healthy snack.

  • Oh, I completely agree about everything in moderation, I am just incapable of moderation. :)
Plus, after thousands of dollars in gastro tests and lots of help from a nutritionist, they've officially diagnosed me with just having "one of those bodies" (I kid you not!)  My body processes everything at about 30% of the speed of the average person, so usually even one treat does mean an extra pound or two for a few days, which isn't the end of the world, but is still counter-productive.
And now our vendors are starting to drop off food - time to go find my homemade chocolate granola!

    Homemade chocolate granola.... yum!

    Willing to share the recipe?
  • I modified it from a recipe I found on Pinterest:

I really can't stand sugar substitutes (plus, my awesome digestive system can't process them), so I took out the splenda.  I also took out the craisins and dried fruit, and replaced the flax with wheat germ because that's what we had on hand.  It makes the granola less than sweet, but when added to a yogurt, it's outstanding and feels like dessert.

  • I believe in this too, but I have binge eating disorder so I have to be EXTREMELY careful that 1 cookie/treat really is only ONE and that I don't go overboard. I try to just stay away from the stuff at work altogether because I find that at work I will grab a treat every time I walk by (of course when no one is looking because I have food-shame about what I'm doing).

At home I've regulated all of my "treats" so they are healthier and pre-portioned out so I am WAY less likely to overeat.
