Getting in Shape

my name is smilesavy and I am a salt addict

The first step is admitting you have a problem...right?  I have been very conscience about my salt intake over the past few days....and I am CRAVING it!!!  It is like my crack...my coke...whatever you wanna call it..I need to figure out how to stop it or I am going to have my family throw an intervention really soon.

  • What is your diet normally like?  Are you under a lot of stress?  I feel like more info is needed to give some sort of advice.

  • I am under a great deal of stress.  I am 4 months from my wedding, in my busiest time of year at work, and waiting to hear about a job for my FI that will relocate us 1300 miles before our wedding date...

but my salt addiction has always been there...I am not a sweets person...I would take a bag of chips over a choclate bar....I would take a pretzel over a cookie....

My diet is pretty much the same (give or take daily)
3 hard boiled egg whites and fruit for breakfast

    carrots or pretzels for snack

salad with some protein for lunch or sandwhich

    Orange for a snack

    and dinner varies....

but I sit here and crave salt...it was easier to quit smoking for me than to give up salt.....

  • Have you tracked your calorie and sodium intake?  Are you getting ENOUGH?  Normally when you truly crave something, it can mean your body needs it.  Your diet looks pretty lean.  I feel like you should probably be eating more to begin with--but it looks pretty low sodium as well.

  • Ditto J.

I also agree that you could probably benefit from eating more.

Is that were all the salt is? Because other than the pretzels, everything else seems ok. There seems to be a missing link here.

<div>I agree with this. Sometimes when we are craving, it's our body saying, "Hey I'm lacking this!!! Give it up!!" </div><div>If you don't think that's what it is, however, you need to form a new habit. If you love sodium when you stress, try to make a new habit.. Such as.. You're stressed so you... take a bath, light incense, eat celery (or anything that's pure water). It will take some time, but retrain your mind to crave THOSE things during stressful times rather than sodium.. I used to be a chips obsessed woman, and cannot tell you the last time I had chips.. It's been forever.. Once I kicked that taste out of my system, I stopped craving... </div><div>Now, if I REEALLY want junk food, I make homemade fries from butternut squash or sweet potatoes... I do add a little bit of salt, or dip it in [homemade] ketchup.. but it's totally worth it.. and because it takes tiime and effort to make them, I never overdo it. :) </div>
  • You could try sea salt, it's supposed to have less sodium.
