Workout Accountability: Friday!

Happy Friday!

I'm looking forward to catching up on my sleep this weekend and FMIL is coming to visit.  What's everyone else up to?

Last night I was so tired when I got home that I just did one 10 minute portion of my dvd instead of the 3 that I planned on.  Oh well.  It was probably for the best since I was so sore.  Tonight I'll lift and do the elliptical at the gym.

How did you guys do?  Medi, how was your new water bottle holder?

Re: Workout Accountability: Friday!

  • Didn't get a workout in yesterday which is kind of frustrating because I will be travelling this weekend without access to my usual equipment. Hoping to at least get a good walk in while I'm away!

  • trying to go to a new workout class at the gym in 30 minutes. Since my gym changed companies, I now have 3 within 3 miles all with different classes and times... meaning: no excuses anymore if I miss one at the closest one. gah!

  • Ran with the dog yesterday morning (best personal trainer ever) and rode my bike on the trainer with FI last night - it's a thing that attaches to the back wheel of a regular road bike to make it a stationary bike. FI is a cyclist so we have plenty of assorted "toys" like this so he, and now I, can train in the "off-season".

Ran another 3 miles with the dog this morning. He gets to sleep it off all day, I had to go to work.

Tonight the boys come back from their moms and since I like to give FI a little "guy time" with the boys on their first night back, I'll be taking up residence at the Y for the evening. I say it's so I can get a lot of lap swim time in, but there will be just as much time spent reading cheesy gossip magazines in the sauna and hot tub. Feel the burn...

  • I ran 7 miles last night & went to spin class this morning.  I'll be going to be early tonight because tomorrow is a 12 mile run!!  Less than 3 months til the marathon :)

Jude- to fill you in:  I like the handheld water bottle better than the belt... here is a pic:

it even has a little zipper pouch for a key or some Gu.  It has an adjustable strap which was nice.  I didn't have to grip the bottle, just kind of let it sit there.  Highly reccommend :)

I have a smaller bottle like this that I absolutely love. My long runs up to this point have taken me past a park with a bubbler, so I've been able to refill. Once I start doing my marathon training,  I'll want to do a different loop that doesn't have as many chances to refill so I'll need to get something bigger. And pockets for gu are always a plus. I just cram them into the inner pocket of my running shorts but that's not always comfortable.

  • Annie- I planned my routes according to water availability last summer but that just isn't going to cut it this year :/  I tried a hydration belt w/ a water bottle on my waist, but it was one big bottle & not several smaller ones so it bounced uncomfortably.  It was adjusted as small as it would go but it was still loose enough to jiggle.  It was a Christmas present from my step mom and it dawned on me that it might have been a men's or unisex one because I'm not THAT teeny.  Handheld it is then!
  • Thanks Medi, glad it worked out for you!  I'll have to consider one of those when the weather is nicer and it stays light enough outside for me to run after work.  As much as a treadmill can suck, those cup holders do come in handy.

This was the same problem I had with a belt FI had from a hiking trip years ago. He had me try it and I made it to the end of the block before I came back, threw the thing in the yard and went back out sans water. (It was a short run, so I didn't really need it - I had just started running so I was doing maybe 3 miles but wanted to try something because I knew I was going to be increasing mileage.)

I saw two women ahead of me at the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving that had belts where the water bottle fit diagonally and rested in the small of your back. There was also a pouch for keys, gu, etc (in my case, kleenex - I always get a runny nose when I run). I haven't looked for it online yet but I did check the local running store and they didn't have it.

</div><div>I have one of these and love it.  I wish I could use the handheld ones, but my hand tingles.  But, I have to play around with how tight I wear it so it doesn't bounce.

  • Started Level 2 of my Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD today. Challenging. Hopefully my endurance will improve over time.
