Re: Motivation Help

  • Hi! I'm getting married on September 18 too!

I actually got a lot of motivation from trying on dresses. It is hard to get motivation from other people though, you really need to find a reason for yourself or it will be hard to stick to a diet.

  • I use races to motivate myself to train/lose weight. I think of it more as a fitness goal than a weight loss goal. I sign up for races and I say I have to be able to do such and such by this date and I train to make sure I can compete.

Another form of motivation I tried lately was doing a boudoir photo shoot for FI. I followed a pretty strict diet for the month leading up to the shoot because I wanted to look my best!
  • I agree with rebsid that you've gotta do it for you.

For me the motivation was wanting to look HOT on my wedding day (July); and frankly even that didn't work at first.  it wasn't until the start of the year, when it was like "holy crap - I'm getting married this year!"  Plus I was so disappointed looking at how fat I was in Christmas photos - I didn't want that to be the same with my wedding photos!

But it was also realizing that I wanted to be healthy and attractive and energetic for my new life with FI.  You can only do so much with a dress size as your goal - because if the pounds aren't coming off you'll get instantly discouraged.  Knowing that the changes you make are making you a healthier person give me that extra motivation to keep going when the number on the scale isn't changing.

    Good luck!
  • Completely agree with PPs - you have to find the motivation that works for you. And even then it can change every day (some days I'm motivated by the thought of putting on a swimsuit on our honeymoon, other days it's as simple as I feel gross if I eat crap and don't work out). Maybe just take a few minutes every morning and think through your day as far as food and exercise and why you want to follow through with your plan?

  • exercise TV has bride-only exercises(called 30 days til I do).. they're always talking about how good your going to look on your day.. ect during the videos. When I hear that, it makes me work harder at the exercise so I do look good. Just hearing someone say something like that gets me emotional, and makes me want to work harder and be more motivated.

  • Some things that might help...  Join a community that will hold you accountable and encourage you.  Start counting cals - Yes, it sucks, haha, I'm doing it right now, but you get better results when you educate yourself about your food.  There's some great websites out there.  Start exercising!!  Build up to more challenging workouts each week/month and don't stop pushing yourself to get better.  One great running program is "Couch to 5K", where you start out walking for 30 mins and you end up running 5k.  My FI had sworn off running, thought it was the worst exercise ever!  He did that program and now he's talking about running 10k races, haha.  The biggest thing that's helped motivate me?  Loosing weight with my FI.  We both started exercising together, eating "right" together, and we joined a weight loss competition and competed against each other!
