Getting in Shape

Any tips would be appreciated

Hi everybody, I have been trying to lose weight and tone up for quite a while (I had my baby 9 months ago and its been pretty much since then, with some slip ups)

I am horrible at finding ways to feel full while dieting, does anybody have any ideas?

Re: Any tips would be appreciated

  • These have helped me feel full:

    1.Skyr..this one specifically:

    2.Popcorn (100 calorie)

    3. Barlett Pears
  • fruit and veggies are always a great filler upper because u can eat as much as u want with a very little set back (just be careful with fruit because that still contains sugar! natural sugae but sugar none the less) anything packed with fiber and whole grains tend to ward off hunger longer....also try a plan like slim-fast, I use thier shakes and meal bars as an afternoon snack when I feel sluggish! Make sure u drink at least 8 glasses of water a day sometimes the body confuses hunger and thirst, so making sure u are well hydrated may help. Also what I am learning that works if I feel hungry but I have already eaten, I do a high pact cardio for 10-15 mins...sometimes its just running in place or dancing to a really good fast paced beat and that slows down my appetite! Try eating several small meals and snacks throughout the day...eat every 3 hours and ur body will start to think it is being fully nourished be sure to make healthy choices!! I hope this helps, I on a healthy lifestyle change rollercoaster myself but it's getting better everyday!
  • dieting in general will make you feel hungrier than usual especially if you do a lot of cardio. Everyone is different in terms of what type of food that will make them feel full but for most people eating watery types of meal ie salad fruit veggies and fibrous type can satisfy hunger.

I am not a big fan of slim fast and bars as what the pp mentioned. These are not healthy option to satisfy hunger as they tend to have chemicals that your body does not need. Also, it is better for you to actually chew food rather than drink liquid meals as you are less likely to be hungry later on before your next meal. Most dietitians do recommend that people eat 3 big meals and 2 snacks a day for the reason being that people have no control over portion sizes and likely will satisfy hunger pangs. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with eating 3 big meals a day as long as you are sticking to you daily caloric intake. I personally do not like eating little meals throughout the day because i was never full and my blood sugar was going up and down.

Food suggestion: eat protein every single meal. oats, veggies, healthy fat(olive oil, canola oil, non-hydrogenated coconut oil), brown rice, whole wheat starches. Also, try to make your own food as much as you can and experiment with spices so you don't always have to put sauce in your food.

    hope that helps
  • A few things that help for me:
The right ratios of protein/fat/carbs at every meal/snack
Protein at every meal/snack, especially breakfast
    High fiber/whole foods
Eating every 2-3 hours (some people don't need this, if I don't eat every 2 hours or so I get cranky and binge)
  • almonds and I hard-boil eggs and take them to work and have one every afternoon at around 3 to get me through until I go home.
  • I agree with eating ever 2-3 hours. It keeps your metabolism up and can stabilize your blood sugar. Have a piece of fruit (I generally have an apple with some peanut butter, cheese, or nuts) in the mid morning. In the afternoons go for some veggies. Just be sure to stick to a real serving size!

  • I was a collegiate athlete and when that was over, my appetite was still raging as if I were working out three times a day and I really had to work at slowing myself down on the food.  I was used to eating a full on meal right before bed!  It was really hard, but what I did was I set myself a bedtime (which sounds ridiculous, but I needed a set time) and the first night I didn't eat for an hour before it.  I did that for a few nights until my appetite got used to it.  Then I just kept pushing the time back until I wasn't eating after 7pm.

I realized how much I snacked at night after that.  Since I did it slowly though, I was able to actually follow through and I actually lost weight- which I wasn't even trying to do at the time.

If you're really hungry or just tempted at night, you can just brush your teeth!  I elborately brush my teeth with my toothpaste and then with baking soda and then rinse with mouthwash.  NOTHING tastes good after you brush with baking soda other than water- plus after going through the whole routine, who would want to eat and have to do it all over again?  So then I just fill up on water.  You just might have to wake up to go to the bathroom, but your skin will look amazing!

Other things I do (because I hate working out):
My age in push ups RIGHT before I get in the shower
    Squats while drying my hair
    Lunges while brushing my teeth
Cleaning the house in high heels- this is not only great for your calves, but it helps break in new shoes!
And while my French Bread Pizza is in the microwave, I do jumping jacks
  • @ beckpaz,  Great Advice, I'm gonna try a few of those myself! I also hate working out  but I really need to do something to stay in shape! Thanks for that!!
  • nikkiluv.  I do this detox anytime I need to lose around 20 lbs or maintian my weight  and it really helps because you can eat as many veggies as you want.  Baby carrots are a great sncak (I know it sounds paultry but they really do stave off the hunger).  The whole raw regimine is here if you want to give it a try: http://www.blissyfit.com/2010/11/the-best-detox-ever-part-2/. What ever you choose you just have to have the willpower to stick to it. You can do it!

    Good luck,
    Ms. Lucy!
