HCG diet

Has anyone heard of this? My friend did it and lost over 20lbs. I really only want to lose about 10lbs, but I was considering this. The diet is super strict and you only consume about 500 calories/day.

Re: HCG diet

  • I did this diet and lost 30 pounds but slowly the weight is coming back because I didnt actually learn to eat normally.
  • 500 calories a day sounds horribly unhealthy--I think it would end up like that old Full House episode where DJ faints on the treadmill.... does anyone else remember that or am I revealing my age here?

  • I am a nurse and have had so many pt with heart problems from this diet.  They say it's safe and doctors recommend it, but it really is not.  It is not safe to consume that little calories.  I am doing weight watchers and it really works and is super easy!
  • I agree with Raynes 100%.

This is definitely not a healthy way to lose weight and keep it off. All the weight (and more possibly) will come back the second you begin to consume real food.

  • Your body cannot sustain itself on 500 calories a day.  You will shut down your metabolism, and gain back every ounce (plus) once you try to eat like a human again.

We all gained the weight slowly, by moving too little and eating too much (and poorly).  Reversing that process is the only safe, proven, reasonable way to lose the weight.  Eat better, smarter, and move your body.

Like rayes said - if it were as easy as taking a pill or hormone, would any of us be overweight?

  • Ive tried it twice, solid results of a lb per day but if you get off track it is VERY hard to recover. Ill probably never do this again.

  • I have heard of many people trying to do this but it isn't healthy. It first and foremost is not realistic. To only allow yourself 500 calories a day is terrible. Plus as soon as you stop you will eat regularly- anywhere from 1,000-2,000 calories a day and your weight is going to come back. I work out regularly so I don't have to deprive myself of food.  If you want to lose weight I would suggest working out early in the morning because your metabolsim will be faster all day long, allowing you to lose weight quickly.
