Getting in Shape

The last mile!!! (My last 10lbs to shed!)

My wedding is on December 11. 2010. I have lost almost 20 lbs since June. I need to lose 10 more to make my goal weight of 130. I have less than 40 days to go. What more can I do? I h=go to the gym at least 4 times a week for 1-2 hrs and drink water only. I need help for these last 10 lbs though.
HELP!

  • Put some lemon in your water. It speeds your metabolism up. Also, eat carbs, but not the starchy ones. If you can maybe add another day to your workout routine. Even just a 30 min workout, like a run.

  • Change up your workouts!  4 days at the gym is great - but instead of plugging away for 1-2 hrs on an elliptical or something similar at a moderate pace, try 30minutes of intense, heart-pounding action.  Your body needs a kickstart to push it beyond what has now become 'the usual' routine of moderate intensity cardio exercise.  The elevated heart rate will burn more calories in a shorter period of time and give you the added bonus of "afterburn" (your body will continue to burn additional calories after the workout as it works to repair muscles that were fatigued during the exercise).  Try this Tabatas workout:
Holding 5 or 10lb dumbells, start standing with feet shoulder width apart; step one foot forward into a lunge and curl the dumbells up into a bicep curl at the same time; step back to starting position.  Do the same on the other foot.  Do these alternating lunges as quickly as you can (with good form) for 20 seconds. Rest for 10 seconds. Repeat this cycle 8 times (entire 8 reps will take you 4 minutes!)
Do the same 30 second set (20 seconds as fast as you can; 10 seconds rest) with pushups.  Again, do a set of 8 reps which will take you 4 minutes.
Do the same 30 second set with squats:  hold the dumbells again and with feet stationary, squat down and push the dumbells over your head into a shoulder press.  20 seconds fast, 10 seconds rest X 8 reps for a total of 4 minutes.
VOILA!  12 minutes and a total body burn!!  I usually warm up with 5 or 10 minutes on the treadmill first, and finish with a 5 minute run at a high speed.
Seriously - try this.  And before you say "i don't want to bulk up with muscle", I promise you won't.  What you will do is burn body fat!.
    Good luck!
  • Sounds like you are at the plateau most people get to. I would recommend maybe asking to have a meeting with a personal trainer at your gym. Most gyms will do this for free and they can give you a routine to do to shed those extra 10 lbs.
