Getting in Shape

Dessert and drink options?!!

Hey Ladies!

I'm one month away from "The Big Day" and I want to try to drop 5 lbs before then-- reasonable right?!  I have always been a big gym fanatic so working out is not my problem-- and I'm pretty good about eating healthy -- though I need to really watch my portion sizes-- I'm just going to have to control that.  My biggest weaknesses are wine and dessert- and to cut them out completely is just not possible. (I'm trying to be realistic...)  Now I don't over indulge or anything but does anyone have any low-calorie yummy dessert options?  My sweet tooth usually gets the best of me and fruit doesn't cut it...so don't tell me fruit!  haha ;)  Also- I like a glass of wine every now and then- but what are the less caloric alcoholic options? (I'm also asking this because I have my bachelorette party next week and will probably indulge...)

Thanks girls!!

Re: Dessert and drink options?!!

  • This is still fruit, but it satisfies my dessert/chocolate craving!

I get frozen raspberries, and mix 1 cup of them with a few spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix. I get the good kind- Lake Champlain from Whole Foods, which is just cocoa and sugar, no added anything- but any good kind would work (I don't think it would taste the same with Swiss Miss...).

Mix it together in the bowl to coat the berries, and as the raspberries melt and soften a little, it makes the cocoa mix more like a chocolate sauce. It sounds weird but I love it! And a little hot cooca mix is much healthier than a chocolate bar or cake or something. Plus a serving of fruit is an added bonus. Chocolate raspberry is one of my fav combinations.

I go for dark chocolate over milk chocolate.  Anything in the 70% range I think is very yummy.  Beyond that, and it's getting gross.

I also like Trader Joes Mint Mouthful (ice cream sandwiches, 60 calories each) and frozen strawberry bars.  YUM.

As for wine, I love it.  I keep myself to two glasses in one sitting (which is about ~250 calories, maybe more or less depending on the sweetness).  I also eat lower calorie lunches (spinach, carrots, turkey, low cal whole wheat tortilla) so I can have more calories later in the form of wine.

Track your calories for a day or two - you'll be able to see how many calories things are and where you can fit in what you want.  It's doable.  Good luck!

I am in the same boat as you with the last 5 lbs goal.  The last 5-10 lbs are the hardest and it might take more than a month to lose it.  Then again it might not.

But the reason is the first pounds that you lose come off in no time because it's excess fat/chub that shouldn't be there anyway.  The last 5-10 lbs might want to stay there because our bodies want us to have some chub for our pregnancies, being women.

Remember in the old ages, women always had love handles and chubby thighs etc.  It meant they were fertile etc.  So the way our bodies were made was to have some chub on there.  Even though we don't want it.

So therefore it takes so much effort and time and working out eating right etc to lose it.  Obviously its 100% possible to lose the last 5 lbs.. it just takes a lot of work.

I just don't see realistically losing it in a month because it's very hard.  Those last lbs are very stubborn and it could take 8 weeks to fnally budge.  Why is it so important to lose the last 5 lbs?  Does your dress not fit?  If that is the case then you will have to eat very clean, raw foods and chicken and fish.. a lot of bland stuff.. no sugar, flour, etc etc.  This is not a realistic thing to follow 100% being so strict with no cheat days because if you only have 30 days to fit in your dress you really can't afford to cheat much.

Anyway if its not about fitting in your dress I wouldn't stress over the last 5 lbs a month before the wedding.  In reality you don't have a month.  You have about 2-3 weeks.. because you will need to get your dress altered.

As for desserts, I don't have many suggestions because I don't have a big sweet tooth and I do not bake.

The only "sweet" thing I eat is No Sugar Added Klondike Bars.  They are around 120 calories or so and have the natural sugars from the vanilla ice cream but no additional added sugars.

  • Hey Tracy! Vodka/Club Soda I think is the drink that has the least calories. For your sweet tooth I would try anything Skinny Cow (low cal, but it has a good ammount of sugar). Even better is sugar free mousse pudding- I've popped them in the freezer and they're great!
  • Definitely sugar free pudding or sugar free jell-o. I Love sweets and I don't miss it being sugar free and the calorie count being so much less is great. Plus as PP stated putting pudding in the freezer is a nice treat too. Also Chocolate Whip Cream on graham crackers, just don't eat the whole thing like I would. Frozen Crystal Light pops are yummy too. There are also websites you can look into for calorie counting alchoalic beverages and if you do a mixed drink choose diet soda. One more tip if you feel hungrey but know you shouldn't be drink a glass or water and wait 20min still hungrey then eat if not then your body just wanted water. Good Luck.! Let us know how you do. :)

  • Try getting a wine spritzer.  There is more to drink and less calories that way.

  • Non-fat frozen yogurt.  FMIL served some once, and it was AMAZING.  I'll also have a bowl of sweet cereal - at least I'm getting calcium.

If you want something only kind of sweet, I like PB&J sandwiches (on toast).  Satisfy the salt and sugar cravings at the same time.
