Getting in Shape

Plateau

My wedding is approaching- quicker than ever- and I am still not at my goal weight. I am really concerned I will not get there either. I hit a plateau and cannot budge past 132. I really want to get to 125 before my June 24, 2011 wedding. Is it even possible? I don't know how to get over this plateau. I increased my workouts to 45-60 min 6 days a week and still nothing!! Granted this is the 2nd week with increased workouts. Should I be more patient? I have been following WW and eating as healthy as I possibly can. I need some tips/advice....Thanks!

Re: Plateau

  • Change up your routine. If you do the same workouts over and over eventually you will hit a plateau. Maybe take a class offered at your gym that will work out different muscles in your body.

  • I agree, I'd switch up  your workouts and also change some of what you're eating. Also, I don't know if you do this already, but integrate some interval training and that should help as well.

  • Are you eating enough...how many calories a day and are you drinking your water?

Here is a sample of what i eat on an average day....

    Before gym snack....Coffee & Banana
After gym breakfast...fat free greek yougurt with natural granola
    Snack...Grapes
Lunch...Weight Watchers bread with 1 tbsp of natural almond butter & sugar free jelly
Dinner...Grilled meat with sauteed veggies, salad...only a little of EVOO to cook
Dessert...Only if I am in the mood and have to have it i'll have a WW cookie or sugar free pudding

I am pretty sure I am eating enough. I used to not eat enough and I couldn't lose a pound. Now that I uped my caloies I lost 5 pounds, but not a pound more. As far as water, I go through a few water bottles a day, but I hate drinking.
  • i plateaued for awhile too, then i took up running a few days a week and the weight started to come off again.
  • 1) drink more water
    2) make sure you really are eating enough (plug a few days into a free site like Livestrong or SparkPeople to see what you're actually getting)
    3) make sure you're getting enough healthy fats
    4) increase the intensity of your workouts
    5) change your workouts
    6) determine if you really do need to lose the pounds.  How tall are you?

  • Good question about height, PP.

Also, assuming that you're short enough to lose more weight without being too thin, you can DEFINITELY lose 7 pounds by June 24.

Can I ask whether you stick to your diet on the weekends?  I used to go through a vicious cycle where I'd lose 1.5 ish pounds during the week and then gain it all back on the weekend when I'd eat whatever the heck I wanted.

Sorry haven't been on here in a few days...I am 5'7"

Over the last few days I have been so stressed with work and running around like crazy person. I actually woke up this morning got on the scale and I was 131! I budged a little. Now hoping to hit the 120's.

as far as eating on the weekends i am pretty strict. i try not to go out to eat because i rather cook my own food so i know exactly what is going into it. however, i do occasionally eat out and have a glass of wine...or two. i am really trying to cut out the wine, but i am a wine sales rep so it's hard not to taste with my customers. i just don't need the empty calories...
