Getting in Shape

After Ripped in 30?

I have a little over 3 months to go before the wedding, and I'm looking to tone up, especially in the upper body. Today I'm starting Week Two of Jillian Michaels's Ripped in 30, and it's going great. I really love how fast and efficient it is.

My question is, what do I do in three weeks when the program is over? I suppose I could keep doing the DVD anyway since I enjoy it, but I don't want to have my body adapt to it and plateau.

Anyone have any suggestions for a similar but slightly harder program I could tackle next? I'm not sure I am ready for something like Insanity, but I'd love to build up to it. Also something that doesn't require a huge time commitment would be ideal (Ripped in 30 workouts are about 35 minutes long including warm-up and cool down).

This is a P & R, but I'll be back later to respond! TIA!

Re: After Ripped in 30?

  • I don't know about the Jilian Michaels program, but insanity is designed so that your body does not get use to the workouts. It's more of a muscle confusion regimen that gets harder as you progress, that way you don't hit a plateau.. It is hard, I will def say that, but it's quick, I think the longest video (including warm up and cool down) is 45 min, and will help you tone your body.
  • I've been doing Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred.  I'm about to finish up my second week and loving it so far.  I feel my body getting stronger and with cleaning up my diet I've lost 5lbs so far.  There are 3 levels of workout, each is about 20-25 minutes each.  You do each level for 10 days or until you feel ready to move up.  Each level is made up of 3 sessions of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs.  All you need is a set of weights and a mat if you have hardwood floors.
  • p90x is phenomenal for toning, but the workouts take about an hour until you get used to the routines and movements.  FI and I have the routines down after about two weeks, and the workouts now take about 30-35 minutes, because we just use the book as a reminder and have scrapped the video altogether (the instructor just takes way too many breaks in the video)

  • Thanks all. That's good to know about P90X. My BIL swears by that program, so I might just borrow a couple of discs and see how I feel before investing the money.

FI kind of wants to try Insanity ever since he found out it's available in Spanish (much easier for him to follow that way so he doesn't have to translate AND learn new moves at the same time), but like I said, I'm nervous about how difficult it looks and I don't want to get discouraged.

I might try 30 Day Shred, since I'm really liking Jillian's style. Has anyone out there done both Ripped in 30 and 30 Day Shred? I'm curious to know about their differences and similarities, since I know both follow the same 3-2-1 format.

    Thanks again!
