Best butt exercises?

Hey ladies,

I'm looking for suggestions on butt toning! I've been an athlete my whole life but can't seem to get rid of this fat tush... any suggestions? Videos? Specific moves or exercises?

Thanks!

Re: Best butt exercises?

  • squats! squats! squats!
  • I really like the one I do on the smith press.  It is a love-hate relationship because it burns like crazy, but I like the results haha!  I am not sure if you have a gym membership, but if you do..go to the smith press & drop the bar on one of the lower racks.  Put a mat underneath the machine & as you are kneeling away from the bar put your foot under the bar & push the bar up with your foot.  So, basically you are doing a glute kickback except you are kicking up.  It was kinda hard to explain, but if you are able to understand, try it out!  It works the tuuuuusshh really good!  But on an easier note, lunges are really good.  Not just normal lunges either..instead of just doing walking lunges, as you are switching legs, bring your front leg up (bent at the knee), kick it forward and then lunge down.  Another exercise that I hate but love the results.  Step-ups are good too!!

  • Squats and lunges! If doing them alone seems to not be "doing it" try adding a weighed bar (<-- Linked, they come in various weights).

  • Thanks! That is all great advice. I don't currently belong to a gym - given my post-graduate school, limited income existence - all these things seem doable at home. Thank you!
  • clicky!!

    squats

    lunges

    deadlifts

A few notes: on the lunges, I would recommend starting with a split stance and lowering your back leg into the lunge.  When you are at the bottom of the lunge, you should have a 90 degree angle in your back leg.  It is hard to tell whether you are positioning your legs far enough apart when you step into the lunge.  I hope that makes sense?? ALSO, on the deadlift (which is honestly probably the best of the three for your butt), I would not bend down all the way to your feet - only go to your knees.  You should feel a slight pull in your hamstrings, if so, you've got it right. :)
  • I'll also echo the same... squats and lunges! Do squats with your legs at different widths. If you have free weights, put a set on the floor and stand on them with just your heels, toes on the floor, shoulder width apart, and do squats like that. It huts the butt area differently. Do lunges forwards, backwards, sideways and at an angle. You could also to one legged bridges lying on the floor. Just make sure all your weight is on your heels when you do all these exercises, and your knees are aligned properly.
