want to tone!

Hi I'm looking to become more toned. I am very active (go to the gym regularly) and weigh 116 at 5'2'' but I'm not seeing very many results. I've google but there are so many schools of thought. Anyone have any tricks or tips that worked for you?

Re: want to tone!

  • Quite a few friends of mine swear by the methods in this book (and they look hot to boot) :

I'm starting it myself as soon as I have access to weights.
  • Working with a personal trainer.
  • Maybe you need to change up your routine.  Take some classes, maybe a bootcamp.
  • What do you do at the gym?  If it's mostly cardio, it may just be that you should be doing more weight training.  If you do some weight training already, it may be that you need to up the weights you're using (or do more reps, or both).

<div>I have tried everything to get toned - workouts on my own at the gym, various Jillian Michaels workouts, Biggest Loser workouts, and other miscellaneous DVDs.  Lots of people recommended P90X but after hearing what the workouts entailed, I decided it wasn't for me.  </div><div>
</div><div>If you don't have a lot of time, Jillian Michaels' Shred It With Weights works.  I really liked this workout and my arms ended up getting nicely toned.</div><div>
</div><div>If you do have time to dedicate to working out, I highly recommend Insanity by Beach Body.  Initially, FI was going to do it alone, but I decided to join him and give myself a challenge.  I LOVE it.  I'm in the best shape I've been in for quite a while and my arms and legs are SOLID.  It's exhausting, but worth it.  (It's expensive though, so I recommend getting it used on Amazon)</div><div>
</div><div>If you want an extra workout to tone your butt and thighs, try Prevention Fitness System's Fight Cellulite Fast (you don't necessarily have to have cellulite - it's a fantastic toning workout regardless).</div>

Jamie Eason's "LiveFit" on bodybuilding.com is great for toning if you're already slim. I'm doing it to gain more muscle and get more definition and it's worked really well so far.

Even though Eason is a fit model and former (I think?) body building competitor you can still achieve long and lean results from her plan. Her physique is the result of years of dedication and you won't get that much bulk from lifting.
