Getting in Shape

Working out frequently, but...

I've really been stepping up my game on working out and trying hard with my diet (I hate dieting, I'm much better at working out) but lately, I feel less attractive every time I work out. It just makes me feel really fat (and I'm not even that big!). I don't really know why, because I'm able to work out to intensity and finish the workout while feeling pretty powerful, but I just feel so chubby. . . What should I do?

Re: Working out frequently, but...

  • Are you at a gym?  I personally hate gyms and would rather do a workout video at home or jog around the block.  If you are really working out as hard as you say you are, stick with it and you'll start to notice results.  Don't give up!

You may want to try yoga which concentrates on feeling good in your body rather than losing weight.
  • What are you eating?  You can't out train a bad diet and if you're eating lots of processed foods then you're probably bloated.

Make sure you're eating enough, and try to clean up your diet.  Focus on eating real, whole food that you prepare yourself and avoid processed crap.  White flours and sugars are out, and if you can't pronounce the ingredients of something, put it back on the shelf.  Also make sure to drink plenty of water.  A general rule of thumb is half your weight in oz.  So if you weighed 140 lbs (hypothetically) aim for at least 70 oz of water a day.

  • I am working out at home with dvds and jogging. I think I will try yoga, my FI does it and he loves it. I'll try harder with my diet, those are really good tips (if you can't pronounce it, put it back; I love that!). I tend to fall off the diet wagon when I get stressed, so maybe yoga can help with that too! Thanks guys!
  • Try not to think of it as a diet too.  Diets fail, lifestyle changes work.

  • Good Morning,

My primary workout is yoga about 3-4 times a week and the other days are running for cardio.  I would suggest starting with about 10 sun salutations to really build some heat and get your heart beat up. From there, I normally put in yoga DVD, (or Namaste on Fit TV)  or I attend a Fit Yoga class at my gym.  (I do not like the gym personally, but the yoga instructors at my gym are very yogi-like)

Also, if you study into some yoga, you will learn to incorporate some of yoga diet practice which can be putting in nutritious food into your body.   Some people are extreme and take the yoga practice of eating to vegetarian, but I am big on ensuring I have enough protein in my body to work out.  (Also, I tend to let my diet go on the weekend, but I am working on it)

    Good luck with the yoga!
