Getting in Shape

Need structure

So, I understand how to eat healthy and make meal plans, but I can't seem to get it right. I think I need structure. I need someone to say eat this on this day and this at this time. At least for a few weeks, until I get in the hang of things. Does anyone know where I can find a diet plan like that, that isn't a crash diet?

Re: Need structure

  • I have tried those kind of diets you are talking about. I usually last about 5 days before I cave because they become too restrictive. I plan all of my meals out a week in advance (even my snacks) so I know exactly what I am eating that day. Maybe try planning a week menu and see how you do. It's a lot easier to plan for your caloric intake that way. Also, as my usual suggestion, try something like my fitness pal or spark people to help keep track of your diet. Good luck.

  • I love my fitness pal. ir has helped me lose 24 lbs since christmas. it can tell you how many calories are in something. I know some people like the south brach diet. my dad lost 40 lbs on it. I personally like just counting calories, that way you can still decide what you want to eat depending on the calories! let me know if you join myfitness pal and I will befriend you!! Good Luck :)

  • I second maribeth, I had a terrible time trying to stick to one of those diets where someone told me what I could and couldn't eat on each day.  I started planning out my meals for the week on Sunday, calculating out the calories for each day I had planned to make sure I wasn't going over my allotment.  If I was under by a significant amount during the week, I'd make a note that said "you can cave and eat that Snickers bar you hide in your desk at some point" so I didn't feel like I was completely depriving myself.  If I was over, I'd revisit some of my choices ("do I really need to have that sandwich on the awesome baguette bread I love?").

    Good luck!
  • If that's what you're wanting, then I would just head out to your nearest bookstore and look through some fitness/nutrition books. Lots of them have meal plans in them.

I can't stand doing it that way because I like choices.. so like PPs I love My Fitness Pal!

I used my own weekly planners ilke Maribeth, but only did it for a couple of weeks until I had myself under control. Best of luck to you! :)

<div>I am exactly the same way. It may sound ridiculous but I really need someone to hand me a piece of paper with all of my meals, cardio, and weight training written out. That is the only thing that's worked for me. I hired a diet coach who is a professional figure competitor and trains/coaches other figure and bikini competitors. This cost me $600 for a three-month plan with bi-weekly meetings and adjustments. If you can afford to hire a coach I would encourage you to do so! If there aren't any in your area, there are many coaches who will work with people online (via email, Skype, phone calls, text messages, etc.) Bottom line is I just needed someone else to be accountable to, and hiring a coach did the trick. </div>

  • Dieting can be tough......I have found that keeping a food journal helps.  This way you are more cognoscente of what you are eating and drinking.  By keeping a journal you will be more aware of what your are eating/drinking because you will have to write it down.  Set a caloric limit for yourself.  Make sure to eat about 5 small meals per day, this will help boost your metabolism, and most importantly drnk lots of water.  I drink about 2 liters per day.  Iincorporate a meal replacement shake into your daily menu plan.  They take about a week and a half to get used to ie: still feeling hungry afterwards.  But I promise you will get used to them.  They are generally around 200 calories per shake.  Try to eat your carbs in the morning, that way you have all day to burn them off.  During the day, snack on fruits and vegetables or brown rice products, like crackers, rice cakes, things like that.  Eat a sensible dinner, like chicken and veggies. If you feel like you need carbs during dinner, then replace them with  quinoa or quinoa products.  Quinoa is a grain that acts as a carb, so it tricks your brain into thinking you are eating carbs.  Pretty awesome stuff!!!  Also, taking vitamin B12 and Chromium together on a daily basis will help aid in your weight loss goal.  Let me know if you need help formulating a workout plan.  Good luck!!!
