Working Out While Traveling for Work

Hello All, My wedding is in May and I have been working out a few days a week just to get toned. I am not trying to lose weight (well maybe a little) but trying to be toned for sure. My job requires me to travel for pretty much 8 weeks straight and will not have much time to work out. I am going to try my best to health healthy, but want to know if anyone else has done workouts while traveling. I will be traveling to parts of Vermont, New York and Central/Eastern PA. If anyone has ideas for great places too feel free to let me know!

  • are you driving in a car or is it air travel?
  • I am flying to Vermont and New York City, then getting a car while I am there. The other places I will be driving too.

  • Does your hotel have a fitness room? If not, you could bring some workout DVDs to play on your laptop. It's pretty easy to fit a resistance band in your suitcase.

Also, some gyms will allow you to pay for only one month if you can show you're there for business.
  • Agreed with PPs.
Try to book hotels with fitness rooms (if you are the one making those arrangements) and if not, a lot of gyms allow you to purchase a week or month at a time. I know mine does.. Just google gyms within walking distance and call to find out!
  • A walk or run outdoors only requires sneakers- the ultimate in portability.

To look for routes other people recommend, either ask at the front desk (often they have recommended routes they suggest) or try www.mapmyrun.com for that area.

  • I bought these cards called Fit Deck cards and they are great! They are basically a deck of cards with all body weight type of exercises, so you shuffle and flip a card and do what it says. No equipment needed and you can do them anywhere. I travel an insane amount for work at times (it comes in cycles) so these cards are a savior.  Sometimes I'm not done with work in time to get to the hotel gym, some close at certain hours, so these cards have a good mix of cardio and body weight exercises.
  • I travel frequently for work and will generally get in workouts on the trips in a number of ways. 1. I always try to stay at a hotel with a fitness room. Some hotels charge, if you are staying for 8 weeks they may waive the charges or if you have status with the chain fees are waived. 2. Get up early to work out. There always seems to be work dinners or something in the evening to prevent a workout. 3. If the hotel doesn't have a gym there are lots of workouts you can do in your room. Even 15 minutes in the morning of jumping jacks, pushups, sit ups, lunges, burpees, etc can make a big difference. 4. Go to a lgroceery store stock up on fruit and healthy snacks for the hotel room.
