Paleo Diet

Anyone on the paleo diet?
I am, so far so good, but its only day 3.  Its not been hard because I had already cut out breads, pasta, and rice in the summer. The most challenging part is the weekly planning and preperation.

Im getting married in Mexico in 45 days, so the pressure is on.

I do mostly primal and I really like it. I'm pretty much completely grain and legume free (besides beer I admit) at home, but do occasionally eat these things when I'm out. I don't eat much dairy, I just cook with butter, eat cheese, and occasionally cook with cream. Overall I really like it, I love not feeling guilty about eating fat. My blog is mostly paleo/primal recipes.

What kind of workouts are you doing? I got good results with The New Rules of Lifting for Women. I also walk a lot.
  • My best friend does Paleo -- she swears by it and says it makes her feel so much better (she also does crossfit) -- idk if you're looking for recipes -- but there are a ton pinterest!

  • I work out once a week with a trainer, and then at least 3x a week on my own. I lift weights mostly, and not a lot of cardio on its own.
I'm doing my best to be strict until we leave for Mexico...then bring on the nachos with EXTRA cheese :)

  • Im reading The Paleo Solution, and there are recepies in there I am trying. I will look on Pinterest as well...I LOVE that site.
  • My doctor wants me to cut out grains (I've already cut out gluten) and dairy, or...limit them, rather.  I'm having a tough time giving up yogurt.

  • I'm not a huge fan of yogurt, so it wasn't a real loss for me...Cheese tho...thats been hard. I haven't had a piece since Wednesday Feb 1, which was in my poutine from A & W. It was my cheat meal :)

  • I'm a huge fan of the Paleo diet...in less than a week on it, my stomach flattened out and I felt awesome. It takes some planning and a bit of a mindset change, but its been the most effective eating plan I've ever tried as far as losing weight goes. I've been cheating a lot lately but have my first dress fitting in 2 1/2 weeks so I'm trying to get back on track! I bought the cookbook "Paleo Comfort Foods" and like it so far.
  • I've heard that book is good, I will probably get it too.  I haven't noticed a difference as today is day 4, but I know I will.  I have IBS and as soon as I cut out breads, pastas and rice last summer, I noticed a huge change.
Good luck with your dress fitting :) I pick mine up on the 27 , and I am looking forward to seeing how it fits now.
  • I'm doing the "primal" diet. Very similiar to paleo but I think it's less strict. Dairy can be cut out but some people eat it in moderation (I still drink a little bit of milk, eat greek yogurt and some cheese). I've cut out sugars, grains, etc. The sugars are the hardest for me since I have a huge sweet tooth. If I'm really craving dessert I'll have a piece of really dark chocolate (70% cocoa). The Primal Blueprint is a great resource and marksdailyapple.com is a great website as well.
  • I've read and written about the paleo diet for a website I work for, but I haven't given it a go.  I'm not sure how I feel about the philosophy behind it, but I do love the emphasis on natural/organic foods and cutting out processed stuff.  I've cut out most refined grain products, like white bread and commercial pasta, but I'm having a tough time giving up any and all grains.

Like PP, I'm also a big softie for sweet things, especially Coke and milk chocolate.  Those are my cheat foods.
