Getting in Shape

Why we freak over sizes I guess ...

http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2012/08/20/model-robyn-lawley-plus-size-fashion/

This article says volumes about how messed up we can be about body image. This woman's message is right, but the medium is wrong. How can a size 10 be a plus sized model???

Sadly, I'm impressed they claim that a 10 is plus sized. I've seen as small as 6 being called plus sized by the fashion world. It's pretty horrible. Honestly, that girl looks healthy and average in size to me.

  • I do hate that a "plus size" model can be anywhere from a 6-10. I'm a size 12 in pants and don't consider myself to be plus size (though I suppose I technically am in dresses, I wear either a 14 or 16). I think they should just throw away the term "plus size" when it comes to models unless they really are in plus sized clothing. These women are normal sizes and are a much better picture of what I'd like to look like than a bony size 0 (no offense meant to those who are skinny, just not for me).

  • I stopped caring about sizes the second I realized I fit into four different sizes (depending on which store I go to). At this point, they indicate absolutely nothing, as they are obviously based on vanity and/or that store's particular matrices, not actual, uniform measurements.

Calling a size 10 model "plus-sized" is ridiculous. You can find a size 10 in every "regular" clothing store; therefore, she is not plus-sized. Plus sizes start at size 14 (sometimes 12, depending on the store).

I agree. Sizes vary SO much... they say she is a 12/14 in US sizes, and I'm a 12, almost 10 in some clothes, but I am bigger than her. So it all depends on your body type and where you buy your clothes. No one is going to see the size on your clothes, so just buy what makes you look and feel good!
